Trips to Tagaytay and Batangas still safe despite the Taal Volcano tremors.

The recent weeks, Southern Luzon has reported the seismology activity of the Taal volcano—which can affect locals and tourists alike in Batangas and Tagaytay. Since then, the Taal volcano was placed under Alert Level 3 on March 26, 2022. Aside from the Taal volcano, there are also tourism updates for the summer season and the coming holy week. For one, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has officially allowed full capacity in all ports in the country in time for the holy week.

In addition, Air Asia Philippines also expected a significant number of passengers and flights during the summer season and the coming holy week. Lastly, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) advises the public to conserve water ahead of the drier summer season.

Travel Updates

Tourists are safe to visit Tagaytay and Batangas amidst Taal volcano activity.

The Taal volcano in Batangas has shown visible, active status over the past few weeks, which caused it to be under Alert Level 3. Despite the seismic activities, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reassures that Tagaytay and Nasugbu Batangas are safe for tourists.

According to PHIVOLCS, the volcanic activity is not expected to be strong; it will only affect five high-risk barangays, namely Bilibinwang and Banyaga in Agoncillo, Boso-boso, Gulod, and Bugaan East in Laurel, Batangas.

PHIVOLCS also said that the alert level may change depending on the volcanic activities [1] over the summer season and holy week.

Transportation News: Philippine Port Authority allows full capacity in ports.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced that it will allow full capacity in all ports nationwide since many parts of the Philippines are now under the lowest alert level.

Despite the full capacity, the PPA reminds visitors to present required documents depending on the destination area—since there are still areas under higher alert levels—and practice standard health protocols like wearing face masks and social distancing [3].

Because of the looser restrictions, PPA expects an influx of passengers due to the coming holy week and summer season.

Health News: PAG-ASA advises the public to conserve water due to potential shortage

According to the PAG-ASA, the coming summer season might bring water shortage in the following months. The main reason for the possible lack in the coming summer is the dropping water level at Angat Dam, where Metro Manila sources its waters. [4]

Since the water level is decreasing, there should be an expected decrease in water pressure in faucets. The public is advised to conserve more water as the water and weather bureau try other procedures like cloud seeding to increase water supply.

In addition to this, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) has yet to finalize the water allocation for Metro Manila as of March 30. Still, it is expected to be finished this early April.
