Heavier traffic is expected in Batangas, especially if motorists will take the inter-town route. Sto. Tomas, Batangas, touted as the gateway to Batangas, has also become a gateway to traffic.
Still ongoing are Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects like road widening and rehabilitation of drainage system.
With Manila as a reference point, motorists going to Batangas proper, Mindoro, or the Visayas via Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) option, should take alternative routes like Alabang-Calamba-Sto. Tomas Expressway (ACTEX) and Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR). Those attending the culmination of CalacAtchara Festival on October 24 are advised to take the Tagaytay-Nasugbu route or ACTEX-STAR-Tambo, Lipa Exit.
Motorists going to Laguna, Quezon, or Bicol are advised to avoid the Turbina, Calamba, Laguna exit. It is better to take ACTEX and then exit to Sto. Tomas instead to lessen the travel time, or even better is to take the Calamba, Laguna exit.

The CalacAtchara Festival is a fete of atchara (chutney) and all that makes up a typical town fiesta—parade, street dance, contests, fairs, merriment, fireworks, and more food—annually celebrated in Calaca, Batangas. CalacAtchara is a blend of two words — Calaca and Atchara. Calaca is a first-class municipality in Batangas. Atchara is Filipino appetizer made of grated unripe papaya, vinegar, onion, garlic and ginger, among others. It is Calaca’s favorite and famed pasalubong product.
The festival was meant to revive, showcase, and reinvent different versions of
atchara. CalacAtchara also serves as a
thanksgiving to the town’s patron saint, St. Raphael, the Archangel. As a sign of gratitude for the great year, Calaqueños open their house and shares
traditional fiesta food like menudo, puchero, afritada, embutido and morcon, with
atchara as a side dish as expected.
