This Week in Batangas (August 15 to 21, 2016)

The sweet and tasty maliputos are aplenty in August, September, October, and November. Taal Lake is known for its endemic fishes like tawilis (sardinella) and maliputo. Of these two, maliputo is the more expensive and harder to find. Maliputo is best cooked as sinigang (sour soup) with unripe tamarind and grilled with calamansi (calamodin) and bagoong (anchovies) Balayan, fried, or charcoal-broiled. Taal Bistro and Feliza Café in Taal, Batangas are among the restaurants that offer authentic maliputo cooked in a traditional way.

Showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon will reign the horizon. The downpour will last for almost three hours in the morning and more than an hour in the afternoon. Despite the prospect of rain, the average temperature will be between 31°C and 24°C, with a real feel that will range between 39°C and 29°C. The public is advised to stay alert for weather news as the monsoon rains may cause flashfloods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

AboitizLand builds an outlet mall in Lipa City which will be named as The Outlets at Lipa. Six times bigger than its Cebu-based counterpart, it will house as many as 300 popular local and foreign brands with continuous sales and discounts. Besides The Outlets, AboitizLand will also build two football fields, restaurants and bars, wellness and leisure establishments in the 9.4-hectare property. The mall is scheduled to open in April 2017.
