AirAsia mulls flying to Palawan’s new paradise
Budget airline company AirAsia says it will launch flights to San Vicente only if the government extended the runway of the town’s newly-opened airport [3]. "Our plans are still based on how fast infrastructure can cope, how fast they can lengthen the runway," said AirAsia Philippines President Dexter Comendador.
Seen as Palawan’s emerging tourism destination, San Vicente gets increasingly known for its Long Beach, which boasts a stretch of 14 kilometers spanning across the coastline of four barangays. Located 186 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City, it offers 22 islands and islets surrounded by azure waters teeming with marine life.
Investor wants to build a theme park in Coron
Coral World Park (CWP) recently announced that it will pursue its theme park development in Coron [4]. Originally, the project was in partnership with Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) Nickelodeon. But VIMN later on cut ties with CWP after the theme park received flak from environmentalists following its announcement last year.
CWP chief Paul Monozca said the theme park will showcase Coron’s marine life. He clarified that it would not harm marine ecosystems as their 400-hectare property for development is “on-land.” If there’s on-water, he said that would be their “floating pods the size of a yacht” which are not anchored.
Palawan LGUs prepare for Baragatan Festival 2018
Local government units across the province are busy finalizing things as the 16-day Baragatan Festival is set to open next week in Puerto Princesa City [5]. Branded as the “celebration of Palawan’s best,” municipal governments are expected to bring the finest stuff they can showcase in float, booth, and street dancing competitions.
Baragatan, a Cuyunon dialect term for “meeting,” gathers Palaweños from all 23 towns to celebrate Palawan’s rich culture and history through dancing, singing, eating, drinking, and other activities. The much-awaited festival is also held in coincidence with the provincial government’s founding anniversary. This year it turns 116.
