Attention, Motorists: Issuance of LTO RFID Stickers Temporarily Suspended

The LTO has issued a memo instructing all its offices nationwide to suspend the issuance of RFID stickers after the initial registration.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently issued a memo instructing all its offices nationwide to cease issuing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) stickers to vehicle owners after the initial registration.

Per the memo dated May 22, 2024, there has been a delay in transferring the necessary data onto the RFID. So, the license plate and the Original Receipt and Certificate of Registration (OR/CR) will be distributed without the RFID stickers.

LTO has clarified the distribution of the RFID associated with the license plate. According to the LTO, the RFID will be made available during your next transaction involving the vehicle. Assuming the car has a clean record with the LTO, you can expect to receive your vehicle's RFID three years after your purchase.

RFID is a system used for electronic toll collection on expressways. It involves a small sticker-like tag containing an embedded microchip on a vehicle's windshield. This tag allows for automatic toll payment as the car passes through toll booths, making the process more efficient for drivers and operators.

Utilizing an RFID system for toll payments provides numerous benefits, including expedited transactions. Additionally, it enables convenient online account management for monitoring and reloading funds, eliminating the need to wait in line at the toll booth.
