Entrance Fee: PhP75 (regular); free on March 8 for women guests
Discover the oldest landmark in Intramuros, Baluarte de San Diego. Its unique shape, resembling an ace of spades, sets it apart as one of the most fascinating structures in Manila. Built in the 16th century, this historic site is a must-see for anyone interested in the rich history of the Philippines.
The devastating earthquake of 1863 laid waste to the structure, leaving it in complete ruin and forcing its abandonment.
The circular fort's fate took a turn for the better during the American occupation when it was buried under soil layers. This fortunate event ultimately saved it from destruction during the Battle of Manila in 1945, despite the baluarte containing it being damaged. The circular fort was uncovered in 1979, and with extensive restoration efforts, the baluarte was restored to its former glory by 1992.
Explore this Intramuros site’s impressive garden area, once occupied by a foundry and soldier's barracks, now transformed into a perfect venue for hosting private functions. The historical and charming fountain and elegant pergola add the perfect finishing touches to create a setting that will leave you in awe.
The National Museum of the Philippines declared it a National Cultural Treasure in 2014. This recognition is a testament to this treasure's historical and cultural significance.
Baluarte de San Diego operates daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The regular entrance fee is PhP75 per head. But free on March 8 for women guests for their Women’s Month promo.
