During the early period of the pandemic, many cinephiles got their fix of the latest films and movies through streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO Go, and the likes. Due to safety concerns, many indoor recreational facilities like malls and movie theaters were closed from the public. Still, this November, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) announced the reopening of movie theaters in selected malls in Metro Manila—which is placed under Alert Level 2.
Movie theaters finally opened their doors last November 10 to moviegoers in various Metro Manila malls and areas. Film and movie houses will only accept fully vaccinated individuals. Below is the list of open cinemas per city in Metro Manila:
In addition to these, more SM Malls in Metro Manila and nearby provinces will be opening their film cinemas in the following days. SM Cinemas in Fairview, Manila, BF Parañaque, and SouthMall will be open on November 30.
Watching movies in cinemas under the new normal comes with safety protocols. Apart from proper social distancing, new movie theater rules highlight COVID-19 prevention measures such as the prohibition of snacks in the theater. Eating and drinking before the show is recommended. Fully vaccinated moviegoers are also required to show their vaccination cards.
However, all moviegoers must also wear face masks; face shields are not required. Kids can watch a movie in the cinema as long as they’re wearing face masks at all times. Health declaration forms will be required upon entry, so moviegoers are recommended to bring their pen or phone (for QR codes).
Persons belonging to high-risk groups or those living with high-risk people are recommended to stay at home even if they’re fully vaccinated.
