With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, education in the country is affected. Schools are currently closed and the start of the next school year has been moved. But if you are lucky enough to have internet connection at home, there are free educational apps that you can download to help keep your kids learning! Check out seven of the best free educational apps out there that can teach your child real world skills and help him or her explore a variety of topics.
1. Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame

Sesame Street continues to deliver educational content to kids with the help of the Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame app. The app will teach kids real-world problem solving skills. It features colorful and playful animations, interactive activities, and personalized encouraging phrases. There’s also a “Breathe with the Monster” activity that will help children practice taking deep breaths to calm down. There is also a robust parent section filled with resources that moms and dads can use with their child.
2. GoNoodle

With more than 300 educational videos, GoNoodle is one of the most downloaded kids learning apps. It features family-friendly and engaging kid songs, dance, yoga, mindfulness, stretching, how-tos, deep breathing, sports, and exercise videos. New videos are uploaded every week, and subscription or in-app purchases aren’t required. In addition, GoNoodle only includes videos created by its team of child development experts, choreographers, athletes, and mindfulness experts who specialize in child-friendly content, so quality is assured.
3. Google Arts and Culture

The Google Arts and Culture app includes stories and histories of over 2,000 cultural institutions from 80 countries. Kids can learn about important moments in history and their impact on the current society. Some of the app’s highlights include virtual reality tours, street views of famous sites and landmarks, an art recognizer, and a pocket gallery. It also features guided tours curated by experts, a built-in translator, 360° videos, and more.
4. NSF Science Zone

The National Science Foundation’s Science Zone is useful for teachers, parents, and students who are fascinated with science and technology. With hundreds of videos and high-resolution photos, the app can serve as a visual learning aid about scientific discoveries and innovations. Users can browse through categories such as Arctic and Antarctic, astronomy and space, biology, chemistry and materials, computing, earth and environment, education, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience, people and society, and physics.
5. NASA

Kids can explore their astronaut dreams by reading about the latest news stories on space and viewing official pictures from the National Aeronautics Space Administration’s (NASA) official app. With archives featuring over 16,000 images and 14,000 videos, the app brings outer space closer and accessible to every kid. With this app, kids can also view NASA’s live TV and earth-orbiting satellites.
6. Poptropica

Poptropica started as a fun website in 2007 that has expanded into a free mobile app. In the game, kids can complete fun quests and adventures where they can learn about different things. For example, the “Time-Tangled Island” lets the players learn about history. Not only is the game educational, but it also teaches kids to be creative in expressing themselves through the character customization. It also teaches them to be more social and responsible through the multiplayer option and pet adoption feature.
7. Duolingo

Duolingo is one of the world’s leading language learning apps. With its easy-to-use features and excellent instructions, it can be used by young language enthusiasts, teens, and adults alike. The app teaches the right words, pronunciations, and spelling of words in a multitude of languages. It can also be a good complementary source for children to learn grammar and vocabulary. There is also Duolingo Kids and Duolingo ABC, which cater specifically to toddlers, but these are yet to be available in the Philippines.
