MMDA expected to suspend number coding scheme for Undas
In order to give way for motorists this All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day break, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is expected to lift the number coding scheme. Based on data from previous years, the suspension might not cover all of Metro Manila, as areas such as Makati and Las Pinas are often exempted. Roads are expected to be filled with vehicles as people usually use the break to travel [2].
Expect huge crowds in bus stations and airports
Bus stations are also expected to be filled with an influx of passengers on October 30 and 31. If you want to avoid overcrowded terminals and longer lines, leave a day or two earlier, go to the terminals during the wee hours of the morning, or book tickets in advance. Airports are also expected to have a bigger number of passengers so expect longer lines at the check-in counters. Tighter security will be implemented to ensure the safety of passengers [3].
Watch out for traffic rerouting along major cemeteries
MMDA is also expected to release traffic rerouting plans for several roads in Metro Manila for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The rerouting plans will be mostly due to partial road closures in big cemeteries like the Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Eternal Gardens Memorial, Baesa cemetery, and Holy Cross Memorial Park [4]. The plans will also include specified areas for parking and tow-away zones.
