Metro Manila bears a mix of positive and negative news this week. The good news: the weather will be slightly sunny and cloudy with only a hint of thunderstorms on some days. Pork lovers would also be glad to hear that eating pork is safe according to the Department of Agriculture (DA). For the bad news: commuters and motorists who frequently use the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) can expect heavier traffic due to the Skyway Project construction, which will go on until 2020. Meanwhile, Star City will be closed until next year after suffering damages from an intense fire last October 2. Read on for the details.
Weather: Partly sunny with passing thunderstorms
According to weather forecasts, October will be generally sunny with a chance of passing thunderstorms in the afternoon. This week, days will be a mix of sunny, cloudy, and rainy. Predicted temperature will range from 31°C to 32°C during the day [1]. Since the weather could change any minute, bring an umbrella as protection against both the sun and rain. In case of heavy thunderstorms, check flight cancellation announcements.
Traffic News: Expect heavy traffic around SLEX
Due to the closing of a section of the northbound lane near the Alabang Exit, the traffic situation around the South Luzon Expressway has become worse for commuters in the south. The lane was closed to give way for the Skyway Project construction, which started last September 24, 2019. In addition, a “stop and go” traffic scheme will be implemented at the East Service Road near Kawasaki. According to Skyway O&M Corp, the initial works around Skyway will be finished in late November. The overall project is scheduled to be completed in 2020 [2].
Travel Updates
Star City will be closed until October 2020
Sad news for children and adults everywhere: Star City will be closed for Christmas 2019 after the iconic theme park was hit by fire last October 2. The site lost more than 60% of the compound after suffering from a fire that lasted for around four hours. According to Star City’s management, the 28-year-old theme park will be closed for a year. It is targeted to reopen on October 2020 [3].
Pork is still safe to eat amidst swine flu outbreak
Two barangays in Quezon City has been found to have cases of African swine fever. The two areas currently quarantined are Payatas and Bagong Silang. Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar affirmed that swine flu does not affect humans and eating pork is safe as long as the pork is branded with the National Meat Inspection Service trademark [4].
