The 47th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law will be on September 21. It is not declared as a holiday in Metro Manila, but protest groups usually gather on this day to voice their concerns. Some of these protests can affect traffic, particularly in areas where rallies are usually held. Meanwhile, protesters might have to prepare for a rainy walk since weather forecasts for the entire week include consistent thunderstorms.

In terms of traffic, data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shows that Pasig City has the worst bottlenecks in Metro Manila. This as the fuel prices are expected to rise again. In other news, patrons of transportation app Grab are also reminded that four is the maximum passenger limit per ride after an assault incident. Lastly, the Mehan Garden will be reopened soon.

Weather: Consistent rainy weather on afternoons and evenings

The rainy season is still in full force this week as thunderstorms will consistently occur in the afternoons and evenings. Lower temperature ranging from 28 °C to 31 °C will follow the heavy downpours [1]. Class suspensions and flight cancellations will be more frequent during intense thunderstorms so monitor social media pages for announcements. Expect flooding in areas like Espana, Marikina, and Quezon City.

Traffic News

Only four passengers allowed in Grab services

Grab Philippines reminds its users that car services can only accommodate a maximum of four passengers. The ride hailing app clarified the rule after an incident wherein one of its drivers was reportedly assaulted due to a dispute regarding the passenger limit. Grab also explained that a child is counted as one passenger regardless of the age [2].

Pasig City has the worst traffic and most bottleneck in Metro Manila

Data from the MMDA shows that Pasig City is regarded as the city with the heaviest traffic and worst bottleneck in Metro Manila. Findings show that about 30 bottleneck areas can be found in Pasig City alone. Some of the areas found to have a severe level of traffic are Julia Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig Boulevard Extension, and Shaw Boulevard [3].

Mehan Garden to open to the public

According to Manila mayor Isko Moreno, Mehan Garden, which is located in Lawton, Manila, will once again be opened to the public soon [4]. Cleaning operations and the initial installation of lights have already been conducted in the park. The exact date of reopening is yet to be announced. Mehan Garden was closed in the past due to vandalism and acts of indecency.

Fuel prices might increase after Saudi attack

Oil companies in the Philippines predict a surge in oil prices after an attack on oil fields in Saudi Arabia. Prices have already gone up to PhP1.85 and 85 centavos for gasoline and diesel respectively last September 17, but prices will go higher in the following days. Higher gas prices could also mean higher prices in goods, services, and import bill. The Philippine peso could also be weaker against dollars [5].
