Mobile devices have become an essential part of the lives of Filipinos around the country.
Technology has advanced leaps and bounds in the past few decades. These developments resulted in features that were considered science fiction in the past. When the first smartphone was introduced by IBM in 1994, its main features are found in the most basic smartphone these days. These developments also made life easier for consumers all around the archipelago by providing reliable phone brands anyone can use.
We came up with a list of the best smartphone brands for 2019 in the eyes of the netizens in Metro Manila. The list includes some of the big-name brands in the market along with some relatively-new companies that have taken the world of mobile computing by storm. Check out the list below of the top smartphone brands for 2019.
The rear camera is one of the most popular features offered by Vivo smartphones in the market.

Sixth place belongs to Vivo. This relatively-new mobile company only entered the Philippine market around five years ago. Known for its rear camera, Vivo has gradually increased its popularity due to its relatively affordable price. The brand is also an official partner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry as its official endorser. This added to the popularity of the brand in a country that considers basketball as its de facto national sport. The brand also appeared in Captain America: Civil War where phones of the brand were used by both Iron Man and Captain America. Its appearance on this widely-popular Marvel Studios movie also enhanced the image of the brand in the market.

While the brand is mainly known for its smartphone line, it also offers other products, including headphones and amplifiers. Similar to Vivo, the main feature of Oppo smartphones are its rear cameras. It features a 10x lossless zoom, which allows users to zoom into their subjects without any loss in the quality of the image. While the company enhanced its image in the country after it sponsored the 2016 PBA Commissioner's Cup, it further magnified its brand recall with its sponsorship of the Spanish football club FC Barcelona.

Surprisingly, Apple only comes in fourth on the list. This American company initially offered computers and software in the market while it first announced the iPhone on January 9, 2007. And the rest, as they say, is history. Under the leadership of the late Steve Jobs, the company has built a reputation of offering the best devices in the market. The iPhone set a trend in mobile computing that has continued even up to this day. It also set the standard for many mobile devices in the market. While the features of the iPhone speak for themselves, the brand has further bolstered its popularity with endorsements from numerous international celebrities.

Another Chinese brand copped third place on the list. Established in 2010, Xiaomi is known for offering affordable mobile devices in the market. It is also the youngest company included in the Fortune Global 500 for 2019. Even as the brand has no notable celebrity endorser, it gradually increased its share of the mobile device market. It introduced the Xiaomi Mi 1 in 2011 and has since released several models of its smartphone in the market. Aside from smartphones, the company also offers wearable devices, mobile accessories, and even appliances.
The latest flagship model of Xiaomi is the Mi 9, which the company launched in February 2019. Aside from its notable processor, the smartphone also features a 48MP main rear camera along with a 12MP telephoto lens and a 16MP wide-angle camera.
A triple rear camera system has become a standard among the latest models of smartphones from Samsung.

The South Korean brand, Samsung, takes second place on this list of popular mobile brands in Metro Manila. Its place is not quite surprising considering its share of the smartphone market. The company started as a small trading firm based in Ingyo-dong, South Korea. Its foray into the tech industry laid the foundation for its entry into the smartphone market. With mobile technology and electronics among the five core businesses of the company, Samsung is expected to continue its expansion in the smartphone market in the future. Aside from its smartphone offerings, the South Korean company also offers smartwatches, tablets, and wearables.
The current flagship smartphone of Samsung is the Galaxy S10, which features an autofocus function for its front camera.
