It's another long weekend as National Heroes Day is celebrated on August 26!

A long weekend is up ahead in Metro Manila and in the entire Philippines due to a national non-working holiday. National Heroes Day, which falls on August 26 this year, commemorates the fallen heroes who fought for Philippine freedom. It is celebrated on the last Monday of August every year. As this is a national holiday, there will be no work for employees and no school for students.Along with the holiday, another thing to expect would be the rainy weather that will persist the whole week.
For National Heroes Day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is expected to suspend the number coding scheme. Areas like Mendiola or the Welcome Rotonda should also be avoided by motorists as protests are expected to occur during the holiday. For those planning a long weekend getaway, hotel room availability in Metro Manila is still excellent!
Weather: Expect occasional thunderstorms during the entire week
Metro Manila is starting to get rainy. This week, thunderstorms would be frequent, but day temperature will still range from 30 °C to 32 °C [1]. If it’s not raining, the skies will be cloudy and the chance for sunshine is minimal. Since it will be a rainy week, make sure to bring necessary rain protection. Be cautious if you live in a flood-prone area to avoid water-borne diseases. If you have a flight scheduled, check the social media pages and accounts of airlines for cancellation announcements.

MMDA expected to suspend number coding for National Heroes Day
Following the trend in previous years, it is expected that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will suspend the number coding scheme for National Heroes Day on August 26 [2].
Traffic to become worse in September
The ‘ber months’ are typically spent in preparation for Christmasin the Philippines, which is why the MMDA tells the public to prepare for heavier traffic in Metro Manila as September starts. MMDA states that they are expecting a 20 percent increase in vehicles on the road beginning this September [3].

Protested are expected in Mendiola and the Welcome Rotonda on the 26th, so for motorists who do not want to be affected by the resulting traffic, avoid these areas. Find alternate routes or be extra patient when you drive by [4].
