travel, things to do, Metro Manila, Ninoy Aquino Day, August 21, holiday

This week, Filipinos will commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, Wednesday. The occasion is a national non-working holiday, so there would be no work and classes for workers and students. The day could be used by travelers and tourists to explore Metro Manila since most locals would be off the road. However, if traveling at night or dawn, avoid the Araneta-Aurora intersection since it will be closed for 7 nights. The weather for the week will be a mix of sunny to rainy. In other news, mall hours and hotel availability would not be affected dramatically by the holiday. Read on for the complete details.

Weather: Partly sunny to rainy

Pack umbrellas in your bags since Metro Manila weather is expected to range from sunny to rainy the entire week. Wear something comfortable that can keep your body cool since temperatures will range from 30°C to 31°C. Monitor DOST-PAGASA’s page for continuous updates on the weather. If you’re flying out of Manila, check the social media pages of airlines for flight cancellations due to weather [1].

Traffic News: Araneta-Aurora intersection to be closed for a week

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that starting August 15 the Araneta-Aurora intersection will be closed for 7 consecutive nights. The intersection will be closed from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. This is to give way for the launching of the Skyway Stage 3 Project girder.

• If you’re coming from Cubao going to Manila via Aurora Blvd., take a right turn to Guirayan St. then turn left to Palanza and left again to Tomas Arguelles St. or Santol St. to Magsaysay Blvd until you reach your destination.

• For vehicles coming from N. Domingo and Blumentritt, you can use F. Roman St., H. Lozada St., and J. Ruiz St.

• If you’re coming from the north, take C-3 Sgt. Rivera then right turn to Bayani, Landargun, and Palanza Street. From there, take a left turn to Santol St., left at Magsaysay Blvd., and take V. Mapa, Old Sta. Mesa until you get to your destination [2].
