Happy Days in Venice Piazza is not just some Filipino diner: this chill and ambient restaurant can serve as the special setting for your catch-up date with your mom. Some of the dishes you can try are beef pares (braised beef, PhP160) and crispy pata (crispy pork feet, PhP545).



How to get there: Ride the MRT up to Guadalupe Station. From the station, walk to Jollibee. Ride a jeepney bound to Market! Market!. Fare is PhP10. Alight at McKinley Hills. From there, you can ask around for the directions to Venice Piazza. Happy Days is located on the ground floor.

From the outside, Chavez Estate might look like a typical home. Although the place looks unassuming, inside waits a surprise in the form of Chavez Estate’s unique dishes. The restaurant offers various dishes that include local cacao. Where else would you find a kare-kare (oxtail stew) with chocolate? Some of the items you can try are chocolate infused pork belly dinuguan (pork blood stew) with chimichurri rice (PhP245) and grilled stuffed squid (PhP80/100g.) The restaurant also sells sweet and savory treats such as chocolate vinaigrette, chili chocolate vinegar, and tablea bagoong.

How to get there: From the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), take a jeepney heading to Imus via Aguinaldo Highway. Alight at Silang Public Market and walk to the tricycle terminal nearby. Ask to the driver to drop you off at Chavez Estate. If you’re going by car, it’s recommended to use navigation apps like Waze to find the best route to the restaurant.



3. Eat Yourself Bankrupt

Where: Ground Floor, Robinsons Place Manila, Ermita, Manila
Operating Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Looking for a new place where you and your mom can explore Japanese cuisine? Eat Yourself Bankrupt is one of the latest destinations for Japanese food lovers in the metro. Located in Robinson’s Place Ermita, the food hall houses four stalls that offer different snacks from Osaka: Hanamaruken, Attakoyaki, Kashikatsu Duruma, and Ok, No!

Hanamaruken serves authentic Japanese ramen and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) that originated from Osaka, while Attakoyaki sells special takoyaki (octopus ball.) On other hand, Ok, No! serves savory Japanese pancake with toppings of your choice. Meanwhile, for small snacks, Kashikatsu Duruma serves breaded and deep fried food on sticks.

How to get there: Take the LRT-1 to Pedro Gil Station. Exit it on the side where UP Manila and the Philippine General Hospital are located. Walk to Pedro Gil Street, then walk four blocks to Robinsons Place Manila. Some of the landmarks you should see are Hotel Kimberly, Philippine Science Centrum, and the UP College of Medicine.



4. Mamma Mia

Where: Ground Floor, Uptown Place Mall, 36th Street Corner 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

If the previous item brings out the flavors of Japan, this one will have you taste Italy. Owned by a half-Italian chef, Mamma Mia brings you the authentic taste of classic Italian staples such as pizza, pasta, risotto (creamy rice), and gelato. Some of the dishes you can try are the creamy spaghetti carbonara ala Mamma Mia (PhP485 for solo, PhP1,520 for two) and the pizza metro (PhP890).

Complementing the excellent food options is Mamma Mia’s charming and homey interior, which gives off the warmth of the Italian family culture. With this familiar warmth, this restaurant is a great setting for an intimate meal with your mom and the entire family.

How to get there: Take the MRT train to Guadalupe Station. Take the North exit and go to the ground floor of Guadalupe Commercial Complex. Exit at P. Burgos. From there, you can take a jeepney to Market! Market!. Ask the driver to drop you off at Uptown Mall. The restaurant is located on the ground floor.



5. Shabushabuko

Where: 2120 Roxas Boulevard corner Antipolo Street, Pasay City
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

The people behind Samgyupsalamat came up with a new buffet offering that will make every mouth water: Shabushabuko. Just like Samgyupsalamat, Shabushabuko lets you enjoy a wide variety of options. You can choose from a total of five different broths—chicken, beef, veggie, spicy, and sinigang (tamarind stew). You can also try 12 kinds of balls and noodles and unlimited pork, mussels, shrimps, squids, and Angus beef.

The price for the buffet varies depending on the time. If you will eat from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM you can get your shabu shabu fix for PhP449. Meanwhile, it will be PhP499 for anyone who will come from 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

How to get there: Ride an LRT train to U.N Avenue Station. From the station, walk to the jeepney terminal which is about 280 meters away. Ride a jeepney heading to M.H Del Pilar which is parallel to Roxas Boulevard. The restaurant is near IO’s Condotel.



6. Lampara

Where: 5883 Enriquez Street, Poblacion, Makati City
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday, 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM
Recommended Budget for Two: PhP1,200

Poblacion has always been a spot for foodies in Makati. If you’re looking for something new in the area, you can check out Lampara. Aiming to shed light on Filipino food in a new way, the restaurant serves dishes that prove that Filipino food can go further than its traditional recipes. Some of the must-try items on the menu are the short ribs (PhP450) and enselada (salad, PhP180).

What’s good about this place is that when you and your mom are finished eating, you can clean your palettes with drinks. The menu for the drinks ranges from cocktails to hard liquors like gin and whisky.

How to get there: Take the MRT to Ayala Station. From the station, ride a bus with the “Ayala-Washington” signage. Get off at Ayala Avenue Intersection and ride another bus, this time with a “Guadalupe Ibabaw – Ayala” signage. Get off at Makati Ave - Guerrero. From there, walk along Guerrero in the direction opposite A. Venue Mall. Turn right when you reach P. Burgos, then walk a block until you get to General Luna. Cross the road and walk along General Luna. On the corner of Felipe (where you will see Jumong Korea), turn right. Walk a block until you see Minantors Korean Grocery, as this marks Enriquez Street. Turn left here and walk 76 meters to get to Lampara.



7. The Peak

Here’s an interesting fact about The Peak: it got its name for being the highest restaurant in Manila, as it is located at the rooftop of Grand Hyatt—the tallest building in the metro. The Peak is deeply inspired by penthouses when it comes to the interiors. With its classy and fancy ambiance, the restaurant is a fine dining spot.

Sample different kinds of beef like Wagyu and Angus while you look over at the view of the city and swap stories with your mom. To complement the flavors, there are also several steak accompaniments such as lobster tail and foie gras (duck or goose fat liver).

How to get there: Ride a bus heading to BGC from EDSA to Ayala terminal. Get off at BGC Turf bus stop along Justicia Drive. From Justicia Drive, walk towards 8th Avenue. Continue to walk northward. Cross 34th and 35th streets. You will be in front of Grand Hyatt Manila.
