This week, it’s all about transportation updates for the holidays in Metro Manila.

Traffic is expected to worsen during the holiday season.

With just a few days before Christmas, everyone in Metro Manila is preparing for the holiday. In anticipation of transportation issues brought about by the season, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have released a program to ensure that every traveler will have a safer, better, and smoother journey. In addition to that, there are also new P2P routes that commuters can use to ease their travel woes. Lastly, airports will also be more secured during the peak of the season with the addition of extra personnel.

Weather: Sunny to rainy weather for the whole week

The weather forecast for the whole week will be a mix of sunny and rainy. There would be slight chances for sunshine accompanied with light showers in the afternoon. Make sure to bring an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun and rain. Day temperature will range from 30 °C to 31 °C, while night temperature will range from 22 °C to 25 °C [1].

Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2018 launched

In preparation for the upcoming holidays, the Department of Transportation launched the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2018.” This program aims to make every commuter have a safe and comfortable trip during the holidays. It will run during the peak of the holiday rush from December 10 until January 5.

The memorandum assigned agencies to implement round-the-clock operations and establish clearer communication lines with the Department Action Center. Booths, centers, or counters will also be organized properly to handle heavy queues. In case of accidents and incidents, concerns will be reported on the social media accounts and websites of DOTr and related agencies. Safety precaution tips will also be distributed on transportation hubs [2].

New P2P routes will benefit those from the South

Due to the dissatisfaction of commuters with the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has released new routes. The DOTr is yet to announce the specific dates of operation, but the new bus trips will ply the following routes:

Alabang to Bacoor
Alabang to Dasmarinas
Bacoor to Makati
Dasmarinas (Daanghari) to Makati

In addition to these, the DOTr states that there will be more bus units to be deployed for routes heading to Ayala, Bonifacio Global City, Lawton, and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from PITX [3].

Travel Updates: National Bureau of Immigration prepares for the holiday rush in airports

In accordance with Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2018, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) also announced that they will be ready for the holiday rush. The department will deploy more immigration officers to international airports to boost the manpower since tourists are expected to flock these during the season [4].
