Market Watch in Manila (October 25, 2018)

Today’s price watch was conducted in Farmer’s Market in Cubao, Quezon City.

For today’s edition of Market Watch, Yoorekka headed to Farmer’s Market in Cubao, Quezon City to check the availability and prices of basic goods such as rice, fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat. While most of the products are available, there are several items that are not. Read on for the complete details of the prices of goods and commodities as of October 24, 2018.


Rice

The availability of rice in Farmer’s Market depends on the type. NFA is not available, but other types of rice such as Sinandomeng and Dinorado are. The price of Sinandomeng is at PhP47 per kilogram (kg). Dinorado, on the other hand, is at PhP58/kg.


Sugar, Salt, Pepper

A kilo of brown sugar retails for PhP52, while a kilo of white sugar is more expensive at PhP65/kg. For salt, the price is Ph12 for a 500g pack. Meanwhile, black pepper sells for PhP5 per 50 grams (g).


Fish, Meat, Poultry

Tilapia currently sells for PhP120/kg, while galunggong (round scad) can be purchased at PhP150/kg. A kilo of milkfish retails for PhP180/kg.

Meanwhile, the price of a whole chicken costs PhP160/kg. Pork in adobo cut sells for PhP210/kg. For beef, the price ranges from PhP300 (nilaga cut) to PhP400 (beef steak). Cured ham costs PhP250 per 250g.

A dozen eggs costs PhP5.50 per piece or PhP66. Salted egg on the other hand costs PhP12 per piece or PhP144 a dozen.


Vegetables

Red onion costs PhP120/kg, while garlic can be bought for PhP120/kg. Tomatoes, on the other hand, currently sell for PhP80/kg. Meanwhile, the price of siling labuyo (cayenne pepper) is PhP1,000/kg, a kilo of potatoes is PhP120, and a kilo of carrots is PhP170.

Pechay Tagalog per bundle costs PhP25, while kangkong (water spinach) sells for PhP10 per small bundle. Lastly, cabbages costs PhP80 per head.


Fruits

One hand of banana costs PhP70 while apples cost PhP40 per piece and a piece of orange sells for PhP25.


Canned goods

Canned tuna, sardines, corned beef, and meatloaf are not available at Farmer’s Market as of this price watch. Canned goods that are available in stores are cans of condensed milk, fruit cocktails, and pickles.


In terms of availability, consumers can expect that most of the items listed above are available in Farmer’s Market with the exception of NFA rice and canned goods.
