Market Watch in Manila (October 23, 2018)

In today’s price watch, we list down Nepa Q Mart’s goods and commodities.

We visited Nepa Q Mart along Ermin Garcia Avenue in Quezon City for the availability of basic commodities and goods. The following is an updated list of products available in the market with their corresponding prices.

Rice

According to Q Mart’s SRP (suggested retail price) sign board, NFA rice should be between PhP28 to PhP32 per kilogram (kg). However, this type of rice is currently out of stock in the stalls that offer it.

Meanwhile, Super Angelica sells for PhP40/kg, brown rice is for PhP48/kg, Sinandomeng is also for PhP48/kg, and malagkit sells for PhP65/kg.

Sugar, salt, pepper

Both brown and white sugar at Q Mart is at PhP56/kg. On the other hand, salt sells for PhP10/kg and whole ground pepper sold by the packet is at PhP5 each.

Fish, meat, and poultry

Nepa Q Mart’s tilapia sells for PhP95/kg. Meanwhile, galunggong is priced at PhP100/kg and white milkfish (bangus) is at PhP180/kg.

Pork cut into cubes, otherwise known as adobo cut, sells for PhP220/kg, while beef sells for PhP290/kg. Cured ham sells for PhP35 per 230 grams.

One kilo of chicken starts at PhP150 and the price for dozen eggs ranges from PhP60 to PhP66 depending on size.

Vegetables

The following is a price list of the vegetable offerings of Q Mart: red onions, PhP100/kg; garlic, Php100/kg; tomatoes, PhP50/kg; potatoes, PhP80/kg; carrots, PhP100; pechay, PhP100/kg. A small bundle of kangkong sells for PhP10 each and cabbages, sold by the head, go for Php80 each. Siling labuyo prices once again increased as it sells for PhP800/kg.

Fruits

Different types of bananas have different prices: lakatan sells for PhP60/kg, latundan sells for PhP25/kg, and saba is sold for Php2 per piece.

The prices of apples vary on the size and are sold between PhP15 to PhP30. Oranges are also sold depending on size with a price range of PhP15 to PhP25.

Canned goods

The price of tuna starts at PhP32 per 155g can; corned beef also starts at PhP32 per 155g can; sardines start at Php20 per 155g; and finally, one 260g can of meatloaf starts at PhP35. These are the lowest noted prices; the cost may be higher depending on the brand.

In terms of product availability, all items are well stocked as of writing except for NFA rice.
