In today’s price watch, we visited SM Megamall in EDSA, Mandaluyong to check the latest prices and availability of basic commodities in their supermarket. Here’s a summary of goods and their prices ranging from vegetables to meat products, as well as rice, seasonings, and canned goods.
Rice
The price of rice at SM Megamall Supermarket ranges from PhP54 to PhP61 per kilogram (kg). Various types of rice sell differently: maalsa sells at PhP54, regular fragrant rice at PhP55, and sinandomeng at PhP61. NFA rice is not available in the supermarket.
Sugar, Salt, and Pepper
Brown sugar at SM Megamall Supermarket retails at PhP54 to PhP59/kg depending on the brand, while white sugar retails at PhP64 to PhP65/kg depending on the brand. Salt is priced at PhP10 per 500 grams (g), and pepper sells at PhP35/50g.
Fish, Meat, and Poultry
Tilapia at SM Megamall Supermarket retails at PhP135/kg, and milkfish at PhP187/kg.
Pork in cubes/adobo cut sells at PhP205/kg and beef in kaldereta cut sells at PhP280/kg. Cured ham starts at PhP61/250g.
The price of one whole chicken at SM Megamall Supermarket starts at PhP136 /kg, while the price of a dozen eggs starts at PhP81.
Vegetables
Red onion is sold at PhP112/kg, white onion at PhP51/500g, and garlic at PhP90/kg. Meanwhile, tomatoes sell at PhP74/kg; siling labuyo at PhP372/500g; potatoes at PhP70/500g; carrots at PhP121/500g; pechay baguio at PhP80/500g; kangkong at PhP35/kg; and cabbages at PhP94/500g.
Fruits
Banana lakatan sells at PhP34/500g while latundan at PhP41/500g. Fuji apples retail at PhP57/500g and oranges at PhP68/500g.
Canned Goods
The price of canned tuna starts at PhP29.25 per can of 155g; corned beef at PhP24.95 per can of 150g; sardines at PhP13.95 per can of 155g; and meatloaf at PhP16.95 per can of 150g. These are the lowest noted prices; the cost may be higher depending on the brand.
In terms of product availability, all items are well stocked as of writing except for NFA rice.
