Cloudy to rainy weather coupled with warm temperature in Manila are in store this first week of October. Meanwhile, there are several traffic news that could affect travels around the metro: road closure along major roads in Ortigas will occur on September 30 due to a fun run, the reconstruction of the Rockwell Bridge has been postponed, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) increased the insurance package of commuters.
Weather: Cloudy to rainy weather to persist the whole week
Bring an umbrella every day for the rest of week because the weather is expected to be cloudy with chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Although temperature is anticipated to be between 31 to 32 °C, bring a sweater or jacket as cold winds may accompany the thunderstorms [1].
Traffic News
Road closure due to fun run
From 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM on September 30, several roads along Pasig to Ortigas would be closed to the public due to a fun run. The affected roads would be Ortigas East Avenue, Julia Vargas Avenue, and Lanuza Avenue. The Pasig Command Center advises motorists to use alternate routes [2].
Rockwell bridge re-opened to the public
Motorists can now use the Estrella-Pantaleon or Rockwell Bridge again as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) postponed the reconstruction until January 2019. The bridge was previously closed to the public last September 23; it connects Makati and Mandaluyong City.
Passed Law: LTFRB increases insurance benefit for commuters
The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the increase in the insurance benefit of commuters. According to Board Resolution No. 76, the passenger death benefits will go up from PhP200,000 to PhP400,000. In addition to this, the amount of insurance for those who will get injuries from accidents also doubled; for instance, those who suffered permanent disability will get PhP200,000 [4].
