Before we say hello to October, we must first say goodbye to September and the fun activities and events that happened this month. If you missed out on the fun, don’t be sad. There’s still time! There are still theater performances and musicals that you can watch before September ends.

1. M Butterfly
When: September 27, 2018 to September 30, 2018

Here are few reasons why M Butterfly is an intriguing show to watch: it was written by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang; the story was loosely based on real events in 1986; and its story is full of twists and turns that will get the audience hooked.
The story focuses on René Gallimard, a mild-mannered member of the French embassy in China. René, despite believing himself to be poor with women, falls in love with mysterious Chinese opera star Song Liling—whom he sees as the embodiment of a perfect woman. But René will face shocking discoveries that surround his love interest, and realize that maybe everything is not what they seem.

How to get to Maybank Performing Arts Theater: Ride the MRT-3 to the Ayala Station. Head towards the northbound side exit and walk to the BGC bus terminal. Take one of the BGC buses and alight at the Fort Strip Bus Stop. You can walk to Maybank Performing Arts Theatre, which is in front of Maridien Condominiums.
2. Guadalupe The Musical
When: September 28, 2018 to October 14, 2018

Despite the religious tone of Guadalupe: The Musical, its director, Baby Barredo, states that the show is not conventionally faith-based. The play has religious elements but it also contains historical facts that happened in Mexico in 1531, where a simple farmer named Juan Diego sees an apparition of the Virgin Mary. Along with Diego’s own encounter, other residents of Guadalupe have started to witness their own miracles.
To heighten the already exciting story, scriptwriter and lyricist Joel Trinidad and composer Ejay Yatco incorporated fictional elements into the story. The play will star Cocoy Laurel as Juan Diego, and theatre legend Julie Borromeo is also part of the production.

How to get to Meralco Theater: Ride the MRT-3 to Ortigas Station. Head to Robinsons Galleria and from there, ride a jeep heading to Rosario Pasig. Ask the driver to drop you off at Meralco Avenue, then walk towards Meralco Theater, which is located in front of McDonalds.
3. Mamma Mia!

For those who are unfamiliar with this Broadway classic, Mamma Mia! is a magical story set in Greece that revolves around family and friendship. The musical features songs by ABBA, including “Dancing Queen” and “Chiquitita.” Since its premiere in 1999, it has been appreciated by both theatre and ABBA fans all over the world. Critics also fell in love with Mamma Mia’s charms, as Sunday Express has called it ‘the sunniest of all musical’ while Bristol Post thinks it’s ‘ABBA-solutely fabulous.’

How to get to The Theatre at Solaire: Ride the MRT-3 to Taft Avenue Station. Ride a jeepney heading to SM Mall of Asia. Wait for the free Solaire shuttle bus in front of SM Mall of Asia. Earliest trip is at 10:30 AM.
4. Lungs

Actor Jake Cuenca and theatre actress Sab Jose star in this minimalist play.

Jake Cuenca will prove his versatility as an actor and artist as he makes his theater debut in the local production of Duncan Macmillan’s “Lungs.” Unlike other stage plays, Lungs does not have exuberant musical numbers or extravagant props. Instead, it will captivate its audience with the raw emotions and realistic conversation between a couple who are questioning whether or not they should have children in a world that suffers from climate change, overpopulation, and political unrest. The ninety-minute play will show the couple’s struggles with the idea of parenthood and their relationship.

How to get to Power Mac Center Spotlight: Take the MRT to Guadalupe station then ride a jeepney heading to Del Pan or El Guinto. Ask the driver to drop you off at PRC. You will be dropped off within walking distance to Circuit Makati. Once there, find the yellow building—it is Power Mac Center Spotlight.
5. Cinderella

For the second main production of their 32nd season, Philippine Ballet Theatre will recreate the classic story of Cinderella in a delightful ballet show. Just like the original story, Cinderella tells the story of a kindhearted woman who found her true love and went from rags to riches.
Kids could also learn valuable life lessons, such as making your dreams come true and finding pure happiness outside of material possessions. Along with the promise of a graceful spectacle from the ballerinas, Cinderella also guaranteed to captivate not only children but also adults. Together with the dance company would be special guest artist Kristoffer Reyes of the Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre in California.
How to get to CCP: Ride the MRT to Taft Avenue Station. Exit the station then ride a jeepney heading to CCP Complex.
Tips for ticket purchasing and watching:
- Be updated on last minute adjustments and changes by following the social media pages of the event, artists, company, or the venue.
- Never buy from third-party ticket sellers and only buy from official ticket distributors for secure transactions.
- Check if there are available special discounts for PWDs, students, and senior citizens.
- Observe the rules and regulations of the venue. Learn what is allowed and prohibited.
- Research if the venue or event is child-friendly before buying tickets for your kids.
- Leave an extra hour when travelling to account for the unpredictable traffic.
- You can get better parking space if you arrive early at the venue. If the event is also for free seating, you can get better seats if you come early.
- Keep your personal belongings close to you during the event and be vigilant for possible theft.
