Many police officers would be deployed in crowded and busy Manila areas.

The weather in Metro Manila will continue to be gloomy and rainy, and the traffic condition might worsen due to floods caused by thunderstorms. Meanwhile, commuters from the provinces also have to take note of the new provincial bus terminal at Valenzuela City and of the update regarding the Bulacan to Manila Point-to-Point (P2P) schedule. Travelers should also note that Manila is on tighter security following the Basilan blast last July 31. Heightened security will affect usually crowded places such as malls, airports, and tourist spots.

Weather: Cloudy skies and thunderstorms to continue the whole week

Expect continuous cloudy to rainy weather all over Metro Manila this week. Thunderstorms are forecasted to fall on afternoons, accompanied by a mild breeze. The temperature is expected to range from 29 °C to 32 °C [1]. To prepare for the constantly changing weather, carry an umbrella or a jacket every day. Also, watch the news for weather updates and stay alert about flash floods.

Traffic News

Rainy weather might bring heavy traffic

Floods caused by the anticipated continuous heavy downpour might affect the flow of traffic. Traffic jams can occur on major roads such as Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) due to floods that might make portions of the roads impassable to motorists [2].

Provincial bus terminal moved to Valenzuela

Commuters from provinces need to prepare as buses from the north will now stop at the new provincial terminal in Valenzuela starting August 15. The new terminal is located at the Valenzuela Gateway Center (VGC) Integrated Terminal on Paso de Blas Road. The move, which is part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) traffic reduction plan, means that buses coming from some northern provinces will not be allowed to enter EDSA [3].

Affected bus companies include Victory Liner, Genesis Transport Service Inc., Bataan Transit Co. Inc., Baliwag Transit, First North Luzon Transit Inc., German Espiritu Lines Inc., RJ Express Inc., Golden Bee Transport and Logistic Corp., and Pangasinan Five Star Bus Co. Inc.

Bulacan to Manila P2P bus route now operates on Sundays

Previous reports stated that the Bulacan to Manila and vice-versa Point-To-Point (P2P) route won’t be operational every Sunday, but bus company Precious Grace Transport Services has announced that they’re now offering trips on Sundays [4]. The departure from Santa Maria, Bulacan is from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, while trips from Trinoma would be from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The current promo fare is at PhP70 for a one-way ticket.

Travel Update: Manila on heightened alert after Basilan blast

Metro Manila is on heightened alert after the tragic van bomb blast in Basilan, took 10 innocent lives last July 31, 2018. National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced that more cops will be deployed around the streets of Metro Manila to prevent similar terrorist acts from happening in the city.

Officers were also tasked to continue their strict inspections of public areas such as bus terminals, malls, sea ports, commercial areas and establishments, tourist spots, and other public areas that are often crowded. For airports, Manila International Airport Authority general manager Eddie Monreal instructed the enhancement of four Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals. He also appeals to the public for their cooperation.

Monreal also stated that there would be an increase in the frequency of vehicle checks, with random inspections that would be conducted through using a hybrid detection equipment. Passengers are advised to arrive early so that they could have more time to go through the updated tight security protocol [5].
