The Light Rail Transit (LRT) is one of the most popular mode of transportation in the country.

Besides the persisting gloomy weather, Metro Manila will face many changes in the traffic situation with multiple projects in the works. For one, provincial buses in latest news are not allowed anymore to take EDSA from Pasay City to Cubao and vice versa starting July 15. Moreover, commuters who use the LRT train system should prepare for a potential fare hike in LRT-1. Meanwhile, LRT-2 will extend its operations to prolong the service for those who travel at night. In Manila, women may find it more comfortable to go out in public now that an anti-catcalling ordinance is in place.

Weather: Persistent rainy weather

There’s no dry day this week as Metro Manila will be covered by clouds that carry mild to heavy thunderstorms which are expected to fall on the afternoons. It’s best to be prepared for the weather by bringing protective rain gears like umbrellas, boots, and raincoats. Since the rain comes with cold winds, having a jacket will be useful as a protection. The temperature is expected to range between 30 to 31°C [1].

Traffic News: Traffic in Metro Manila to get worse, LRT-1 expected fare hike, and LRT-2 extension of operating hours

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that the traffic situation in Manila could get worse over time due to the numerous road works in several parts of the city. Some of the aforementioned projects and works that will be conducted in Metro Manila are the following [2]:

Provincial buses would be restricted from plying the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) from Pasay City to Cubao, Quezon City starting on the 15th. The provincial buses won’t be allowed from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, from Monday to Friday on both northbound and southbound lanes.
A drainage enhancement project will be done in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
An elevated guideway will be constructed on North Avenue.
Emergency leak repair will be undergone on Shaw Boulevard.
Replacement works on Buendia Bridge will be conducted.

Meanwhile, for daily users of both the LRT-1 and LRT-2, note that both platforms will have some changes in their operations. Firstly, the LRT-1 might have a fare hike anytime soon as the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) proposed a price increase on its trips. Although the decision is not yet final nor approved, commuters can expect a change anytime soon [3].

On the other hand, LRT-2 will extend its operations to 10:00 PM on its last train trip from Santolan, while from Recto the last trip will be at 10:30 PM. This new schedule will apply on both weekends and weekdays and even on holidays [4].

Travel Update: PAL warns public against fake ads

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has warned the public against a circulating ad on social media involving the company. The ad in question states that PAL will supposedly give away two free PAL tickets after the respondent answers a survey. PAL has already submitted a complaint and has taken necessary steps in removing the ad, but the public is still advised to look out for this scam and to not participate in the survey [5].

Passed law or ordinances: Anti-catcalling ordinance now applies in Manila

Women in Manila can now feel a little bit safer as the Ordinance No. 7857 or An Ordinance Penalizing Catcalling and Other Forms of Public Sexual Harassment have passed the third reading. Acts that will be prohibited under the ordinance are wolf-whistling, harassment, groping, catcalling, and many other forms of harassments.

Apprehended violators might face a day up to a year in jail with a bail ranging from PhP200 to PhP5,000 and are required to attend a gender sensitivity seminar to be conducted by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Commission on Women [6].
