Last month, the Manila concert scene was stacked with the biggest names. From Katy Perry’s Witness tour, Ed Sheeran’s Divide Tour, The Script’s must-watch concert, and LANY’s anticipated mall shows, Filipino fans definitely had the time of their lives.

But this month isn’t showing signs of stopping, as it plans to give us a much hotter lineup of live shows and concerts. Read on to know what’s in store for the Filipino music enthusiast this May!


1. 24K Magic World Tour in Manila

When: May 3 to May 4
Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena
Prices:

Bruno Mars’ new album 24K Magic surely dominated charts and radio stations and caused widespread LSS (last song syndrome) to his listeners because of noteworthy hits like “Versace on the Floor”, “24K Magic”, “That’s What I Like”, and “Finesse”. This May, die-hard fans will get to hear these awesome hits live at the SM Mall of Asia, in the Philippine leg of his 24K Magic World Tour. Bruno’s last concert in the country was in 2014 in promotion of his then-newly released album, “Unorthodox Jukebox”. He also previously held a concert in Manila and in Cebu in 2011.

How to get to SM Mall of Asia Arena: Ride the MRT-3 and alight at the Taft Avenue station. Exit the station and ride a jeepney shuttle heading to Mall of Asia. Fare is PhP8.00.


2. Pulp Summer Slam: Of Good and Evil

When: May 5, at 12:00PM
Where: Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City

Pulp Summer Slam continues to produce the great metal concert year after year, and on its 18th year, Pulp Summer Slam will bring 10 of the biggest names in the international metal scene such as Behemoth, At the Gates, Cradle of Filth, Death Angel, Crown the Empire, Jinjer, Attila, Crystal Lake, NerveCell, and Secrets. Pulp Summer Slam is the longest-running Metal Festival in the country, and to give you an idea of its caliber,last year’s show was headlined by heavy-hitting acts such as Megadeth, Dragon Force, and Greyhoundz.

How to get to Amoranto Stadium: Ride the northbound MRT-3 and alight at Araneta Center-Cubao Station. From the station, take the south exit and walk along EDSA passing Hotel Sogo Cubao heading to Aurora Boulevard. Take the footbridge to go to the other side of Aurora Boulevard. Afterwards, head to SGT. J Calolos Street and ride a jeepney with a “Roces Palengke Pantranco” signboard. Tell the driver to drop you off at Amoranto Stadium.


3. RP10 - Richard Poon’s 10th Anniversary Concert

When: May 18, 2018 at 8:00PM

In the ten-year span of his musical career, we have seen Richard Poon grow as a musician. He has transitioned well from being a boy band member to a reputable crooner through which he gained quite a following among young and old ladies. His transition gave way for his chart-topping covers of classic romantic ballads such as “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko” (Even When My Hair Turns Grey) and “Moon River.” As a way to celebrate his blissful career in the music industry, Poon will be having a 10th anniversary concert accompanied by an orchestra, as a show of thanks to his loyal fans who have supported him non-stop in his musical journey.

How to get to Newport, Resorts World Manila: Ride the MRT and get off at Taft Avenue station. From the station, ride a jeepney heading to SM Mall of Asia. There are Resorts World shuttles available at SM Mall of Asia.




4. Kehlani Live In Manila

When: May 25 starts at 8:00PM
Where: The Island at The Palace
Prices: PhP2,650 (general admission)





While Kehlani’s musical career might escape most of the younger listeners, this does not change the fact that the 22-year old singer and songwriter is bound to earn new fans with her timeless musical talent as she holds her debut concert in the country. This May 25, for one special night only, Kehlani will be performing her slick and classic RnB hits such as “Distraction,” “Gangsta,” and “Honey,” as well as new songs from her debut studio album Sweet Sexy Savage. Kehlani also previously lent her voice for the official soundtrack of the hit superhero movie, Suicide Squad.

How to get to The Palace: Take the MRT and drop off at the Guadalupe station, ride one a UV Express heading to Market Market. Tell the driver to drop you off at The Palace.




5. Jake Zyrus: Music & Me

Even after he came out as a lesbian and later on as a transgender, Jake Zyrus and his golden voice has never wavered, and still has his trademark wide vocal range which made him famous in his early years. In his second concert as Jake Zyrus, he will be joined by American Idol alumna Jessica Sanchez and other prized local singers Kyla and Inigo Pascual. Prior to coming out, Jake Zyrus was known as Charice Pempengco, and performed in both local and international shows with various iconic singers such as Celine Dion, Andrea Boticelli, David Foster, and Mariah Carey. Few of his known songs include “Pyramid,” “Louder,” and “All By Myself.”

6. Darren Espanto: Unstoppable

Most of Darren Espanto’s fans have witnessed the 16-year old performer grow up ever since his stint in the television singing contest, The Voice Kids. This year, Darren will spend his birthday yet again with his loyal fanbase with his much-awaited solo concert, Darren Espanto: Unstoppable. Indeed, he is unstoppable as he continues to garner more and more fans through the years with the help of his hit songs such as “In Love Ako Sa’Yo” (I’m In Love With You), Dying Inside To Hold You, Stuck, and Starlight.

How to get to Kia Theater: Take the LRT-2 or MRT-2 and drop off at Araneta Center-Cubao station. From there, walk along Aurora Boulevard and make a right turn to General Aguinaldo Avenue. Turn left to arrive at Kia Theatre.


Tips when buying tickets and watching live concerts:



  • Make sure to check the final date and time of the show from the organizer so you can plan ahead.
  • To be updated in case there’s a sudden change in schedule, or an announcement about concert regulations, follow the social media pages of the artist or organizer.
  • These are very in-demand concerts, so make sure to reserve once you’re sure you’d be attending. In case that the venue do not reserve tickets, just buy a ticket as early as you can.
  • If the venue also do not allow seat reservations, plan your trip and come early to venue to get good seats.
  • To avoid being late at the concert, allot an extra hour for the traffic. You can use travel navigation apps to guide you to the venue if you don’t know how to get there.
  • You should also arrive to the venue earlier if you want to secure a better parking spot.
  • Since concerts can get crowded, always keep an eye on your personal belongings.
  • To be more comfortable, wear something that has breathable fabric so you can move along to the music. But be wary of the dress codes as well, should there be any in effect.
  • Comply to the rules and regulations of the venue. You don’t want to spoil the experience by having to be escorted out of the venue.
