It’s all about ASEAN Summit 2017 this week.

The 31st ASEAN Summit will happen from November 10 to 14, which means that declared non-working holidays from November 13 to 15 will extend the weekend. The country has taken special preparations for ASEAN Summit 2017, such as the total lockdown of some areas in Pasay City. In other news, people travelling north away from Manila should expect an increase in their toll fee.

The country will host the 31st Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, which will happen in Manila. Over 20 world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, will attend the four-day affair.
Due to this, the government has declared November 13 to 15 (Monday to Wednesday) as special non-working holidays in Metro Manila, Pampanga, and Bulacan; this means that there would also be no classes during these days. In addition to that, classes in Metro Manila for all levels in both public and private schools are also suspended on November 16 and 17 (Thursday and Friday).

Most of the events and hotels that the delegates and leaders would be staying in are located in Manila, so some of the major roads and areas in Pasay City would be in lockdown.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced particular areas that motorists should avoid during the summit. Only pedestrians and vehicles with ASEAN IDs and decals, respectively, shall be allowed on the ASEAN routes. Below is the list of areas to be locked down, along with their schedule in compliance to the summit:
Roxas Boulevard (from Padre Burgos Ave. to Buendia Ave.) would be in total lockdown on November 13 from 12:01 AM onwards. This will be lifted on November 13 from 12:00 PM onwards.
SMX-MAAX Block, Pasay City will have a partial lifting of lockdown on November 13 from 12:01 AM onwards.
CCP Complex, Pasay City will continue the lockdown on November 14. It will be lifted partially on November 15 from 12:00 PM onwards.
DILG also advises motorists and travelers to refrain from using the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) as a stop-and-go scheme will be implemented when an ASEAN convoy passes through these areas.
DILG also imposed flight restrictions with “no-fly zones” on Manila from November 13-14 (6:00AM to 10:00 PM) and November 15 (4:00AM to 5:00PM). Only takeoffs on Runway 13 and landings on Runway 31 from 6:00AM to 5:00PM from November 12-15 would be allowed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In other news, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that the color-coding scheme will still be implemented during the summit.

For those who want to try new restaurants during the holidays, Bread Broth & Beyond is a newly-opened restaurant at Pleasant Hills, Mandaluyong City which is notable for its breakfast menu. It also serves a huge array of food, including soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastas. The prices of food range from PhP145 to PhP545, excluding drinks.
The restaurant is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM Mondays to Sundays.
Travel Adventure: Binondo, Manila

Binondo, Manila can be a place for travel adventures in the Metro for those who want to experience the culture of one of the visiting countries during the ASEAN summit. The historical area contains the oldest Chinatown in the world, which was established in 1594. Aside from enjoying the rich history and culture, visitors will also enjoy food trips as the area is also bustling with different food establishments. Visitors can also walk along Escolta Street which located within the area to explore the old buildings.

While in Binondo, one can head to Salazar Bakery for various bread items which can serve as pasalubong (souvenir). Since 1947, the bakery has been a place for classic breads such as raisin bread, monay (Filipino bread roll), pork and pickles roll, and Chinese delicacies like tikoy (Chinese rice cakes). The store is open from 5:15 AM to 9:55 PM.
Major Entertainment: The ASEAN Music Festival

In celebration of the Philippine’s chairmanship of ASEAN and the 50th year of the association, there would be a free concert featuring artists from the Philippines such as Franco, Silent Sanctuary, The Ransom Collective, Parokya ni Edgar, Sandwich, and Ben&Ben. They will be joined by international music acts from the other nine ASEAN countries.
The festival will happen at Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati City on November 14, 2017 at 7:00 PM.
Weather News: Cloudy Skies with Occasional Sun and Showers
The sun will be out but surrounded by clouds.
For those who are planning their long weekend getaways during the non-working holidays, the weather will be partly sunny and cloudy. The skies will be covered with clouds this week accompanied by occasional thunderstorms. Despite the chances of the sun making an appearance, everyone is advised to bring an umbrella to be prepared. The average day temperature is 31 °C while the temperature at night will range from 23 ° to 25 °C.
Other Major News: NLEX Increases Toll Fee Prices

A major adjustment to toll fees in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) started last November 6. The implementation follows the approval of new rates by the Toll Regulatory Board (TBR) last October 18.
The increase adds PhP0.25 per kilometer and covers north of Marilao to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat, Pampanga. There is also a PhP0.67-per-kilometer increase in the toll from Sto. Tomas to Batangas.
Class One vehicles (cars, jeepneys, vans, and motorcycles) travelling the entire NLEX from EDSA Balintawak or Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City to Sta. Ines, Pampanga will have to pay an additional PhP18.00. Class Two vehicles such as buses and small trucks will have to pay PhP46.00 more, while Class Three vehicles like large trucks and trailers can expect an additional PhP56.00.
