Christmas is upon us, and you know what that means: non-stop parties and family reunions. For sure, you’re now getting your budget ready to go gift-shopping for your family and friends. But instead of heading to the malls again, why not head to a weekend market instead?
Weekend markets gained popularity in the metro because of the unique and wide variety of products they offer. From food to crafts, and even clothes, you’ll find everything you need. Last week, we asked our readers about their favorite weekend markets and the results are in! Read on and you might find one close to you.
5. Agora Food Market
Address: Terra 28th, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig
Operating hours: Fridays, 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM

To start our list is Agora Food Market in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Agora, which literally means “assembly” or “gathering place” in Greek, started out in 2015 to cater to the foodies of BGC. Unlike other weekend markets where unique crafts and apparel are sold, Agora only focuses on food. Here, visitors can enjoy a one-of-a-kind food crawl without having to drive around the city.
Agora also has a laid-back vibe, where relaxing music can be heard rather than the blaring of stereos. They’ve also set up several banig or handwoven mats across the lawn so diners can sit down and munch on their food.
4. Legazpi Sunday Market
Address: V.A. Rufino St. cor. Legazpi St., Legazpi Village, Makati City
Operating hours: Sundays, 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM

At number four is Legazpi Sunday Market, which can be found in Makati City. Even though it’s situated inside a subdivision, this weekend market is open to non-residents of the place. Like your usual weekend market, you’ll find anything under the sun in Legazpi Sunday Market but you won’t find anything alike. The organizers of Legazpi Sunday Market make sure that no two vendors sell the exact same product. The result is a vast selection of vendors who offer everything from fresh produce, international cuisines, and even clothes and bags.
3. Salcedo Saturday Market
Address: Jaime C. Velasquez Park, Salcedo Village, Makati City
Operating hours: Saturdays, 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM

The third weekend market on our list is Salcedo Saturday Market, still in Makati. One of the biggest weekend markets in the country, Salcedo houses over 300 vendors every Saturday. As with the Legazpi Sunday Market, the organizers in Salcedo make sure that no two vendors offer the same product. Salcedo also aims to provide healthy options to the public by showcasing vendors who sell organic products.
Another great thing about Salcedo Saturday Market is it’s a one-stop shop. You can do your weekly grocery shopping in the market as they sell wet and dry products. You will also find unique trinkets, organic bread and spreads, and even artisanal products.
2. Sidcor Sunday Market
Address: Epifanio de los Santos Ave, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila
Operating hours: Sundays, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Taking the number two spot is Sidcor Sunday Market in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. Sidcor is the answer of the north to the Salcedo and Legazpi markets of the south. People fell in love with Sidcor due to their wide selection of plants, flower pots, and even small trees. Eventually, the weekend market grew to what it is today: a home of over a hundred vendors who sell various types of fresh produce, cooked meals, and even clothing. If you’re a serious buyer, come by Sidcor as early as 6:00 AM to get your hands on the freshest seafood.
1. Greenfield Weekend Market
Address: Greenfield District Central Park, Shaw Blvd. cor. Mayflower St, Mandaluyong City
Operating hours: 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM

The weekend market that topped our list is Greenfield Weekend Market in Mandaluyong City. Greenfield Weekend Market is one of the newcomers in the list, starting only in 2014. But since then, it has become a hub for foodies and creatives alike with its wide range of offerings. You’ll find savory snacks, dishes, and drinks, but there are also plenty of vendors who will feed your artistic souls. You’ll see live painting demonstrations, cute knickknacks, and even vinyl records. Aside from food and art, Greenfield will also satisfy the music-lover in you. They have live bands who perform at night to entertain market-goers.
