Motorists can now use electronic cards like Beep, Paymaya, and Mastercard when paying for toll fees. These contactless cards can be used on the North Luzon Express Way (NLEX), Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX).
The effort was made by government to speed up transaction times in toll gates. The current average cash transaction time is 12 to 15 seconds. By using contactless cards like Beep and Mastercard, it can be cut down to five to six seconds.
Beep Cards can now be used from the Balintawak to Bocaue toll gates of NLEX, and the whole of SCTEX and CAVITEX. Currently, Mastercard is accepted only at NLEX, while Beep cards can also be used to pay for buses and metro trains.
NLEX operations and Technology Management Head Robert Bontia said that prepaid or debit cards are acceptable, as long as these are contactless with the wave logo.
