The Department of Health (DOH) issued a public warning to take precautionary measures during the rainy days to avoid water-borne diseases since typhoons and heavy rains are affecting portions of the country.
In the statement released by DOH, the public is at a higher-risk of contracting diseases like typhoid fever, cholera, leptospirosis, and hepatitis A because of the excessive flooding. DOH highly advised that it’s best to steer clear of floods that may contain human and animal waste especially people with open wounds that are more vulnerable to hazards.
Besides avoiding contaminated waters, DOH similarly points out that people should make sure that water and food sources are reliable and safe. Practicing good hygiene like the washing of hands before and after using the toilet and proper waste disposal is also recommended.
If an individual is experiencing early symptoms of any of the mentioned diseases, it is advised to consult a doctor at the nearest hospital per DOH instructions.
