With his ruggedly handsome looks and rock-solid abs, it’s not hard to see why Derek Ramsay is one of the most bankable leading men in the industry today. The 40-year-old Filipino-British heartthrob is a hall of famer in Cosmo’s list of hot hunks, has bagged acting awards, and lives an athletic lifestyle to boot.
Starting out as an MTV VJ and model, Derek transitioned to hosting then acting. After starring in ABS-CBN TV shows, he played the leading man in the box office hit No Other Woman, opposite Anne Curtis and Christine Reyes. Now a TV5 talent, Derek has begged off from movie roles this year to aim for a gold medal in 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate in Plage de la Grande Conche, an international frisbee contest to be held this June in Royan, France.
Derek credits his lean frame to following the 70-30 formula, which means fitness is 70% diet and 30% exercise. He works out at home by doing squats, judo pushups, running sit-ups, skipping rope, and burpees. Aside from that, he plays golf, water polo, and rugby. He leads the Philippine frisbee team and is the head ambassador of the Philippine national beach football team.
Tying with Derek for the ninth place is Joseph Emmanuel Bascon, who is more popularly known as Joem Bascon. Joem broke into the entertainment scene in 2007 due to his close resemblance to Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby. But he proved that he can hold out on his own by doing movies and TV shows which showcased his range as an actor.
In 2013, he portrayed a gay lover in Lihis, which he admits is his most daring role to date. He also played Col. Paco Roman in the historical biopic Heneral Luna. His recent films include the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Oro and Across the Crescent Moon, a movie about human trafficking. Currently, he is busy with Pusong Ligaw, the newest ABS-CBN afternoon drama which just aired on April 24.
To keep his body in tip-top shape, Joem hits the gym three times a week and eats six small meals a day.
