NAIA on full alert

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the country's major airport, has been placed in full alert status starting September 3, 2016. The alert status has been raised as a proactive measure after the bombing incident that took place in Davao City on the eve of September 2, 2016.

Procedures during full alert status include stricter checkpoints, full complement of the Airport Police Department, and presence of K9 units.


TRAFFIC NEWS


Odd-even traffic scheme now implemented in Pasig

Pasig City Command Center is enforcing a new traffic scheme also known as the Experimental Odd-Even Traffic Scheme. Starting September 1, vehicles with at least four wheels with a plate number ending in an even number will be prohibited to use the following roads on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:

• Elisco Road west bound
• R. Jabson Street north bound
• Elisco Road, R. Jabson, M. Concepcion Street Intersection
• San Guillermo Street east bound
• Sandoval Bound north bound

Meanwhile, vehicles that have a plate number ending in an odd number are not allowed to ply on the abovementioned streets on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Traffic violators will be penalized and have their vehicles towed.

PAL cancels several flights at NAIA

Philippine Airlines has announced that 29 local flights will be canceled starting September 1. Those canceled flights include Manila to Cebu, Caticlan, Legazpi, Laoag, Tuguegarao, and other domestic flights. Complete list of canceled flights is available at the Philippine Airlines’ official website while affected passengers will receive notifications advising them of their new flight schedules. Affected passengers may also rebook their flights or request for full refund subject to applicable fare conditions within 30 days from their original flight date.

Moreover, the flagship airline stated that they will soon operate new flights at Clark International Airport. This move is in support of the Philippine administration’s decongestion plans for Manila’s Ninoy International Airport.


WEATHER NEWS


Metro Manila weather will remain cloudy throughout the week. Sunshine can be expected on Wednesday and Friday with a stray of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Those who are traveling to and from Manila are advised to check weather forecasts and flood advisories.


HEALTH ALERT


Travelers will be screened at the airports for Zika-related symptoms.

With regard to the increasing reports of Zika virus in Singapore and Malaysia, the Department of Health is once again on high alert in preventing the virus from entering the country. All passengers are continuously being screened at the airport using a thermal scanner.

Travelers who will be detected with a body temperature of 37.5 degree Celsius and higher will be checked by the doctors on duty using a thermometer. They will also be checked for other symptoms such as rashes, joint-pains, and sore eyes, and if their travel history includes a visit to Zika-stricken countries.

DOH is asking all travelers to fill out honestly their health declaration checklist.

29th Wedding Expo Philippines is set to happen on September 10 and 11.

The biggest wedding fair in the country will be held on September 10 and 11 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Four hundred wedding suppliers will be gathered together to present over a thousand wedding ideas for future life-partners and wedding planners.
