The gloomy weather is still upon us, but don’t let it rain on your parade. In this list of weekend entertainment, we’ve rounded up several things that you can look forward to such as movies, theater shows, concerts, and other events. Feeling artsy? You can check out an exhibit, too. From sun up to sun down, Metro Manila has exciting offerings this weekend.

Hold your breath as you watch this thriller.

Thriller movie fans may want to go to cinemas on August 31 to catch Don’t Breathe. This film revolves around three friends who unlawfully enter a house of a rich blind man to steal his money. What they did not realize is that he is not as helpless as they thought. Directed by Fede Alvarez, Don’t Breathe features Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minette, Daniel Zovatto, and other artists.

Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop completes impossible tasks to save the love of his life in Mechanic Resurrection.

If you’re after action and thriller films, you can watch Mechanic: Resurrection on August 31 in cinemas. This film features Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop who used to be an assassin. But when his loved one was kidnapped, Bishop needs to go back to his old life to save her. He travels around the world to complete three assassinations and make them seem like accidents. The cast also includes Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Sam Hazeldine, Rhatha Phongam, and Natalie Burn. Mechanic: Resurrection is directed by Dennis Gansel and distributed by Viva Pictures.

‘The Bench Boys will be singing hit songs from the ‘80s. .

If you think that male singers who are in their 50s cannot do musicals anymore, The Bench Boys can prove you wrong. On September 1 to 3 and 8 to 10, you can watch Dirty Old Musical (DOM) featuring The Bench Boys composed of John Arcilla, Nonie Buencamino, Robert Seña, Michael Williams, and Ricky Davao. This male group band had a one-time big time hit in the ‘80s and disbanded because of personality differences and other reasons. The Dirty Old Musical will be held at the Music Museum, Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan City. Ticket prices range from PhP1,080 to PhP2,160.

The New Minstrels and The Circus Band want to see you this September.

On September 2, 8:00 PM, you can reminisce some ‘70s hits on See You in September featuring The New Minstrels and Circus Band. Both are show bands which dominated the Philippine entertainment scene during the 1970s. The Circus Band was composed of singers from the Ateneo University but the members eventually went solo. On the other hand, The New Minstrels started as an all-male singing group which included female singers to their line-up as they became more popular. See You in September features former members of both groups. These include Pat Castillo, Ray An Fuentes, Louie Reyes, Eugene Villaluz, Jacqui Magno, and Ding Mercado. The concert will be held at Solaire Resort & Casino, 1 Aseana Ave., Entertainment City, Parañaque City. Ticket prices range from PhP1,348.25 to PhP2,966.15.

K-pop fans unite! GFriend presents their album showcase this September.

Fond of K-pop songs? You may want to head to The Theatre at Solaire on September 4 to watch GFriend L.O.L Manila Showcase 2016. This is an album showcase of K-pop girl group GFriend which is composed of Yuju, SinB, Yerin, Sowon, Eunha, and Umji. LOL is their first studio album that features 10 songs including Navillera which topped music charts in Korea. Regular ticket prices range from PhP3,303 to PhP6,606. The Theatre at Solaire is located at Solaire Resort & Casino, 1 Aseana Ave., Entertainment City, Parañaque City.

One of the sketches and designs of Juvenal Sansó internationally acclaimed visual artist.

Ayala Museum has long been known to feature a wide range of artworks from various artists. This September, you can marvel at colored sketches, paintings, and costume designs in Sansó: Setting the Stage. This exhibition is a celebration of Juvenal Sansó’s 70 years in the industry. Sansó is an internationally acclaimed visual artist who has produced numerous stage and costume designs for the opera.

Aside from sketches, the exhibition showcases archival materials such as textile designs that were related to Sansó’s work. Sansó: Setting the Stage is open to the public and will run until September 18 at the Third Floor Galleries, Ayala Museum, Makati Ave., cor. De La Rosa St., Greenbelt Park, Makati City.

If night life is your thing, you may want to check out Glow in the Dark on September 3. Revelers can move to the groove of Dutch pop, hip-hop, as well as dance music with neon lights to keep the night alive. Co-presented by ETC Channel and Jack TV Network, Glow in the Dark will be held at Chaos Nightclub at City of Dreams Manila, Aseana Ave., cor. Entertainment City, Parañaque City.
