Today, June 13, officially opens the school year 2016-2017 for public elementary and secondary schools. However, private schools and universities may have their school opening on a different date as long as it will be not earlier than first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August.
The public is advised to get ready for heavier traffic this back-to-school season and to take note of alternative routes in case the traffic gets intolerable.
Father’s Day
Father’s Day is celebrated every third Sunday of June, June 19 this year. This day is for honoring fathers and their influence in the society. Most restaurants and other establishments are giving promos and discounts related to this occasion.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
The Capital's Police Department assures the public that Manila will be safe and traffic will be smooth flowing on school opening day.
Commuters expect that traffic will worsen starting Monday, June 13, as classes for the school year 2016-207 begin. Approximately 2.6 million students from kindergarten to college will be going back to school and will join the volume of daily commuters in the city.
In view of this, the National Capital Region Police Office will go on full alert status on June 13. They will ensure the safety of the students and help maintain smooth traffic on the said day.
WEATHER ADVISORY
Light clothing is still suitable for the current weather.
Metro Manila will experience the usual cloudy days with a couple of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Bringing of umbrellas and raincoats is still advisable because of the high percentage of rain throughout the week. Nevertheless, the skies may be clear and the sun may shine brightly on an unexpected day and time so it is still not the season for thick jackets and coats.
