It’s Independence Day weekend, and there are a lot of thrilling events lined up in celebration of the public holiday.

Movies
Fans of the horror genre might want to catch The Conjuring 2 as it hits Philippine cinemas this June 9.

In the sequel to the 2014 film, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren head to Enfield, London to take on the case of a single mother with four children who lives in a house plagued by malicious spirits. The Conjuring 2 is directed by James Wan and stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.
Concerts
Whether you prefer local or foreign acts, performers will host exciting concerts to ring in the Independence Day weekend.

Fans of original Pinoy music (OPM) might want to check out Hajji Alejandro in KilabotfoREDver this June 10, 8:30 PM at the Music Museum of the Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan, Metro Manila. The name of the concert is a playful nod to Hajji’s title of being a “kilabot ng mga kolehiyala” (college girl’s heartthrob). Singer and Hajji’s daughter Rachel Alejandro will also grace the event. Tickets range from PhP500 to PhP1,800 which can be purchased from Music Museum and PhP515 to PhP3,605 at Ticketworld.

Jollibee is likewise celebrating its Filipino roots in the
Jollibee #PinoyandProud: 2016 Independence Day Celebration and Countdown, happening on June 11, 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM at the Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City. The fast food chain will unveil its latest anthem entitled “Sarap at Saya,” a song written especially for Independence Day. Darren Espanto and KZ Tandingan will sing the new Jollibee jingle during the concert. The show will also feature performances by Sarah Geronimo, JK Labajo, Elmo Magalona, Spongecola, and Itchyworms.

There’s also the
King of Pop Experience on June 11, 8:00 PM at The Theater of the
Solaire Resort & Casino. Michael Jackson may be long gone, but tribute artist Kenny Wizz keeps his music alive as he performs Michael’s greatest hits. Tickets can be bought from Ticketworld (PhP856.80 to PhP3,748.50) or Ticketnet (PhP848.00 to PhP3,710.00).
Gaming
The past few weeks have been exciting for the gaming community, what with the movie release of Warcraft: The Beginning last May 23. Now fans of the online game Defence of the Ancients (DOTA) 2 get a chance to be in the spotlight, too.

This June 7 to 12, 16 teams will vie to win $USD3M in The Manila Major competition, which will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Tickets range from PhP100 to PhP400 for the June 11 and 12 events and can be purchased from smtickets.com.
Arts & Culture
Spanish food and furniture come together in the Tapas: Spanish Design for Food exhibition from now until June 16. The exhibit features over 200 items showcasing the work of Spanish chefs, designers, architects, and restaurateurs at Tall Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

The exhibit is open from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM and is curated by designer and architect Juli Capella. Tapas is organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Manila and AC/E – Acción Cultural Española (Spanish Cultural Action), in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila.
