Where You Can Bring the Family on Mother’s Day

It is not difficult to enjoy Mother’s Day without spending too much. There are a lot of things you can do with your whole family that are within your means and also within your reach.
Here is a list of enjoyable yet very budget-friendly activities for the family on this day for our beloved moms. Whether you are the teen daughter or the dad who is making the plans for Mother’s Day, you can easily pull of any of the following suggestions:

Philippines is a country rich in history and every town has its own story to tell. There are many towns that harbor historic churches, old schools, and ancestral houses.

A Manileño doesn’t have to go far. Manila has a lot of historical landmarks such as Intramuros, which is the city’s oldest district and most famous landmark. You and your family can freely walk back in time on its old cobblestone streets and visit the old San Agustin Church, Fort Santiago, and Manila Cathedral.

If you live in Vigan City, Pila, Laguna, or Taal, Batangas but haven’t explored the old Hispanic streets in Vigan City, the ancestral homes that outlived World War II in Pila, Laguna, or Galleria Taal in Taal, Batangas respectively, then this is the best time for you to appreciate your own town’s golden age. The best thing about this is that touring around these streets is absolutely free.
Go for a picnic at the beach.

Who says the beach is just for swimming and sun-tanning? The beach is also a great place to lay a nice blanket on the sand, set your home-cooked specialty meals, and have a picnic while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
To make everything enjoyable from prep to pack-up, let everyone in the family select and prepare their favorite dish. Utilize kitchenware, blankets, and all supplies available in your house. Set a theme for your picnic and organize some games to make it more enjoyable.
Beach family bonding
To make sure everything goes smoothly, make a checklist of what to bring before heading out to the beach. Don’t forget to bring a ground cover, an ice box, cleaning cloths, umbrella, sun block, and garbage bags.
Watch movies at home.
Movie night with Mom and Dad
Besides the shared fun, watching movies together with the family also has benefits. It is probably one of the easiest and cheapest activities a family can do to strengthen their bond, have greater intimacy, and improve a sense of trust and warmth among them.
Visit a local zoo.
Everyone loves cute animals. And where else can you easily find different species but at the zoo? Going to the zoo is not only fun but also a good way for working parents to unwind and get back in touch with nature. It’s also a chance to introduce the children to animals they haven’t seen before and educate them about nature conservation.
If you live in Rizal, go to Avilon Zoo which is the Philippines’ biggest zoo. If you’re a Manileño, take your children to Manila Zoo and pay your old animal pals there at a visit. Don’t forget to dress comfortably, pack lightly, and bring water, a towel, and an insect repellent. Most importantly, respect and follow visitor rules.
Go to water parks.

Some water parks don’t allow outside food so you can either eat your packed meals in your car or go out for cheaper food options. Check with your local water park and they might just have good deals for you, too.
Head out to Farmers Market.
If you like to nourish yourself with fresh foods, mingle with community members, and get free tips on cooking, then head out to your local Farmers Market.
Shopping with family
Going to the Farmers Market is a good bonding not only for the family, but also for the community. Farmers Market is a place where you bump into your friends, meet and support fellow locals who farm the fresh fruits and vegetables, and learn your town’s native produce. There you can teach your kids about shopping and socializing. Also at the Farmers Market, the family farmers can provide insights on where your food comes from and how to best cook the ingredients you buy.
Go to a karaoke night/ KTV-ing.
Singing out of tune during a KTV night out with friends can be embarrassing at times, but definitely not with your family. That’s why a karaoke night is also a perfect family bonding.

You don’t have to spend much just to be able to sing your heart out. KTV room rates can go as low as PhP40 per hour (3:00 PM to 7:00 PM) in Karaoke Republic, Quezon City. KTV restaurants also offer package rates that include food and drinks.
If you prefer the comfort of your own home, you can rent a videoke machine, which can go for as low as PhP500. If you want to invest a little on your own karaoke, you can buy a DVD karaoke player that comes with a free microphone for as low as PhP2,000. Having your own karaoke at home allows you to have karaoke nights whenever you want.
Small things such as eating or watching TV together become amazing when a family comes together. No matter how busy you are at work or school, it is a must to spend time with the family even for such simple activities. Like Michael J. Fox said, “Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.”
