The City Government of Cebu remains confident in staying under the lowest community quarantine status despite the surge in COVID-19 cases in the city. Meanwhile, in Bohol, mass gatherings are not allowed and fully vaccinated travelers to the province are still required to present a negative RT-PCR test.

Quarantine Update

Cebu City retains quarantine status amid the third wave.

Despite the increase in COVID-19 cases in the region, Cebu City will remain under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). The Department of Health (DOH) 7 is confident that Cebu City’s quarantine will not escalate even if the region was riding the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the head of the DOH 7 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Cañal, the number of positive cases is not the only basis for determining the quarantine classification. Cañal noted that other factors such as critical care utilization rate (CCUR) in medical facilities are also assessed [1].

Moreover, City Councilor Joel Garganera echoed the DOH 7’s sentiment as he mentioned that the COVID-19 situation in Cebu City is still manageable. He pointed out that measures like contact tracing, isolation facilities for positive patients, and swabbing have always been set. At the same time, there are still plenty of beds available in quarantine centers.

Bohol City still prohibits mass gatherings amid the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Bohol discourages its constituents from holding mass gatherings as cases surge in the province [2]. Dr. Yul Lopez, PHO officer-in-charge, specified that fiesta celebrations, sports tournaments, dance events, parties, and entertainment activities are not allowed. However, Lopez mentioned that restaurants and churches are permitted following the 50 percent seating capacity.

Furthermore, Bohol Governor Art Yap implemented uniform curfew hours in the entire province to prevent the spread of the virus. Under Executive Order 34, the curfew hours in Bohol province start from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.

Travel News: Bohol retains swab test for fully vaccinated travelers

As some cities and provinces in the country abolished the need for swab tests for fully vaccinated travelers, Bohol Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) has decided to retain the requirement [3]. Governor Art Yap and members of the BIATF cluster, doctors, and health experts held a meeting regarding the possibility of fully vaccinated travelers being carriers of the disease. Meanwhile, Dr. Yul Lopez also shared the chance of travelers tampering with vaccination cards as there is yet a system to verify these cards.
