Early curfew requested by Cebu City Police
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, the deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) requested the City Hall to implement an earlier curfew in the city. The current curfew in Cebu City starts at 11:00 PM and ends at 5:00 AM. Parilla observed that there are more violators with a later curfew start and proposed for it to be adjusted to 10 PM [1].
Law enforcers in the city are tasked to apprehend those who are roaming beyond curfew hours, as well as those riding private and government vehicles. Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera also requested the public’s participation by reporting any mass gathering or individuals violating quarantine protocols.
Vendors and customers without masks to be apprehended
As per Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella's order to strengthen quarantine measures, vendors and customers caught not wearing masks in government-managed markets will be arrested. The markets that are managed by the Cebu City government include the Carbon Market, Pasil Fish Market. T. Padilla Market, Ramos Market, Pardo Market, and “bagsakan” at the South Road Properties. Violators will be turned over to the city’s COVID-19 action team at the Barangay Tejero gym where they will face consequences [2].
Establishments selling liquor warned by Cebu City government
Although the liquor ban was already lifted last October 2020, restaurants, resto-bars, and “sari-sari” stores are still reminded by the Cebu City government to comply with health protocols and be responsible for their customers. According to the City Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), these establishments will be held responsible once they are caught tolerating violations.
For “sari-sari” stores, owners cannot sell beyond the 11:00 PM curfew and should not allow customers to drink liquor on their premises. Meanwhile, for both restaurants and resto-bars, owners are only allowed to sell two bottles of liquor per customer and must follow the curfew hours. Once caught violating the protocols, these establishments will be revoked of their permit to sell and serve alcoholic drinks, according to BPLO head Jared Limquiao [3].
