It will be a September to remember as the month starts and ends with a bang. A cosplay competition, a guitar festival, a forum, and a pageant are in store for residents and visitors of Cebu. You will even have the chance to learn a foreign language before the end of the month. All these events in Cebu this September 2019 are a good start to the “ber” months. It will give such a good feeling that you will start singing about those girls and boys selling lanterns on the street.

September will start with a bang as a cosplay competition greets residents and visitors of Cebu on the very first day of the month.

Residents and visitors to Cebu will get the chance to enjoy a cosplay (costume play) competition at SM City Consolacion. Hosted by Cube Concepts, Unlipop 2019 Cosplay Competition brings cosplayers from all over Cebu together under one roof. If you are a cosplayer or simply love attending these events, then you should drop by SM City Consolacion on September 1. Aside from the cosplay competition, you can also look forward to a custom action figure contest, toy photography contest, and a toy and collectible display during the event.
Tip: If you plan on joining a cosplay competition, you should consider mobility when it comes to the costume you will use, especially if you are planning to wear a bulky costume.
How to get there: From SM City Cebu, get on a jeepney headed for Consolacion and tell the driver to drop you off at SM City Consolacion.

From September 6 to 8, the Guitar Capital of the Philippines will host The 2nd International Guitar Music Festival. Being the home of several guitar manufacturers, it is only fitting for an event this grand be held in Cebu. You can look forward to performances by some of the best guitarists the country has to offer. Workshops and lectures will also be held in connection to the event. If you love strumming a guitar and are in Cebu on the first weekend of the month, you may want to check out the event.
Tip: If you are attending a workshop, it is ideal if you can pay for the fee ahead of time. This is particularly true when the slots for the event are limited.

Thinking out of the box will be the concept of the day as creatives from all over the island gather for the Tropical Futures Forum | Cebu City. They will talk about the positive impact of their work in their neighborhoods and how they established their own non-profit organizations. September 21 will be the day when a new modern day Cebuano hero will emerge during the Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu event.

A new modern-day hero is what the Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu is looking for on September 21. The event will see 20 young Cebuanos competing for the title, “Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu Hero 2019.” The winner will then get the opportunity to represent Cebu in the Ginoong Pilipinas competition in October. Organizers are looking for the perfect representative for Cebu. He will need to have the intellect, look, and overall personality as well as the potential and image to compete internationally. The competitors will also vie for the Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu-West, Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu-East, Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu-North, and Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu-South titles.
Tip: Before attending a pageant, check the dress code since some events require formal attire while others allow semi-formal wear.

5. Startup Weekend Cebu - Women Edition

Women take the floor during the Startup Weekend Cebu - Women Edition. Participants get to pitch their ideas to experienced entrepreneurs and work with a team to get it off the ground. They will also be challenged to create a minimum viable product (MVP) that will fit the needs of their target market. Participants can look forward to feedback and guidance from different mentors during the event. They will also get to network with designers, developers, and entrepreneurs who are also eager to make a positive impact in the world. Participants also get unlimited internet and coffee to boot.
Tip: Startup weekends are good places to network with professionals from different fields. So you may want to bring a good supply of calling cards to give out during these events.

Cebu will host the biggest convention of Japanese language schools and universities on the last Saturday of September. The 5th Japan Education Fair and Convention- Cebu will see these schools and universities showcasing their programs and services for anyone interested in studying or working in the Land of the Rising Sun. Organized by Jellyfish Education Philippines, the event will also feature talks about scholarship opportunities for Filipinos in Japan. A Japanese instructor will also teach the basics of Nihongo (Japanese language) during the event.
