Rain and cloudy skies are in the weather forecast for Cebu this week.

There will be somewhat erratic weather this week as weekdays will be cloudy while weekends will be rainy. Motorists not only need to brave the summer heat but also heavy traffic particularly along N. Bacalso Ave. To cool down this summer, locals and tourists can eat a beloved dessert or go scuba diving to discover marine life and more.

Mixed weather for the week

Cloudy skies with thunderstorms are in the forecast.

This week, locals can expect cloudy skies during weekdays and thunderstorms over the weekend. Monday, March 12 will start with sunny skies with a rain shower or two. This will then transition to cloudy weather by Thursday. Umbrellas and raincoats will come in handy over the weekend as rain showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast from Friday to Sunday. Minimum temperature will be at 30 ºC, while maximum temperature will be at 32 ºC.

Motorists should brace for gridlocks along N. Bacalso Ave. as the third phase of the PhP683-million underpass project begins. [1] Last March 1, a portion of the intersection between F. Llamas St. and N. Bacalso Ave. was closed which led to heavy traffic in nearby roads. [2]

To lessen the burden on commuters, the Cebu City government has provided 20 Kaohsiung buses which passengers can ride for free during peak hours, or from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. [3] For northbound passengers, they can ride a bus from Caimito St. which can take them to Leon Kilat, Sanciangco, and Panganiban Sts. On the other hand, southbound commuters can ride the said buses from Friendship Village in Brgy. Mambaling which will take them to Brgy. Bulacao. Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is also looking into banning private vehicles along N. Bacalso.

Local food to try: halo-halo

When it gets hot, one way to cool down is by eating halo-halo. This dessert is made up of sweet beans, bananas, ube (purple yam), kaong (sugar palm fruit), nata de coco (coconut jelly), leche flan (caramel flan) mixed together with shaved ice and evaporated milk. In Cebu, homegrown halo-halo shops offer their own take on this beloved Filipino food. Some vendors allow customers to choose their own toppings or to make their own halo-halo. Prices range from PhP55 to PhP75.

While there are many beautiful beaches in Cebu, locals and tourists can explore what the island province has to offer beyond its shores. Cebu has many wonderful scuba diving spots where you can see marine life and underwater treasures. For diving destinations close to the city, you can try going to Olango Island and Nalusuan Island. For unique diving spots, there’s Tambuli plane wreck in Mactan and the San Juan shipwreck in Liloan.
