Seaplanes to Bantayan Island are now operational and other news in Cebu.

July is jampacked with interesting things and events in the Queen City of the South. Locals and tourists can attend a viewing party, listen to local songs, or indulge in seafood and sweet treats. New ways for getting around like buses and seaplanes make Cebu an even more exciting place to visit.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) of Cebu City will hold a public hearing on July 18, 1:00 PM for persons and properties affected by the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. Through the hearing, the Cebu City government will finalize the list of persons and establishments affected by the lot acquisition for the implementation of the BRT
In this project, bus stations will be put up along N. Bacalso Ave., Osmeña Blvd., Escario St., Archbishop Reyes Ave., and Cuenco Ave., while terminal and depot locations will be located at Bulacao area, Talamban area, and the South Road Properties. Residents and business owners along these roads will be identified for resettlement or compensation.

A seafood meal with a superb view of the sea can be had at Flotante Seafood Restaurant. Located in Olango Island, Flotante is the only two-storey floating restaurant in Cebu. They serve freshly caught seafood and cook these into quirkily named dishes like Crabs in Gatathione, Nakakaloka Tinola, and Shrimp in a Supot. After eating, visitors can also enjoy various activities like fish sanctuary viewing, fishing, snorkeling, paddle boarding, wake boarding, and kayaking.

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu will host a Game of Thrones (GoT) Season 7 Viewing Party on July 17, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at El Viento Restaurant & Pool Bar. Attendees can watch the highly anticipated new season of the hit TV show while dressed in Game of Thrones costumes. Guests can also enjoy food at the event such as sizzling meals, pizza, beer, and special drinks like the Priestess Melissandre cocktail. There is no entrance fee but seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shoppers looking for a unique pasalubong (take-home gift) can check out Lucy’s Delight leche flan (caramel custard) from Cammy Confectionery. Also dubbed as happiness in a jar, sisters Cammy and Mayan Benedicto have put the beloved classic Filipino dessert into a convenient, portable form which they sell at PhP90 per jar. Aside from leche flan in a jar, they also sell oatmeal cookies and calamansi (calamondin) cheesecake.
Lucy's Delight leche flan is available at Casa Gorordo Museum, Coffee and Comfort Café, and Isidra Comfort Cantina.
Homegrown talents

Cebuano singers and singer-songwriters will perform their songs in the Vispop Series this July 18, 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Handuraw Pizza Mango Square. The series of acoustic sessions is part of Vispop 5.0, a songwriting campaign aimed at elevating the quality of Cebuano songs. Admission is free.
Rotational brownout

The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) has started to implement one-hour rotational brownout from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM in some service areas in Cebu City and its neighboring towns. The low power supply in the Visayas grid is the effect of the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Leyte, where Cebu power distributors get electricity from.
In a press conference, VECO Chief Operating Officer Anton Mari Perdices said there is no definite date as to when the rotational brownout schedule will end. VECO has asked the public to lessen their power consumption to help make power supply stable again.
Seaplane to Bantayan

Locals and tourists can now go on a Bantayan getaway quicker than before. Charter airline Air Juan is now flying from Cebu to Bantayan, the northern end of Cebu Island, and vice versa every Monday and Thursday from Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA). Departing flights leave every 10:00 AM from MCIA, while return flights leave every 11:00 AM from Bantayan Airport. The seaplanes cut travel time to Bantayan to 40 minutes, compared to four to five hours of travel by bus and ferry from the North Bus Terminal.
