More flight options to other parts of the Philippines from Cebu

Locals and tourists in Cebu brace for higher temperatures this summer, which is expected to start this week. Sunny days are a great time to find new places to explore, like a new flower garden in the city, a farm down south where farmers grow an unexpected seasonal fruit in Cebu.
Warmer weather up ahead
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mactan has forecasted for summer to start this week or next week. The warmer weather comes after the country shifts from cold northeasterly winds to dry easterly winds.
Temperatures in Cebu City will range from 31 to 32ºC during the day and 24 to 25ºC during the evening. The skies will have intervals of clouds and sun with showers or thunderstorms.
City Mayor eyes opening of Camp Lapu-Lapu access road

In a press conference last March 2, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña bared his plans to open the access road in the Central Command (Centcom) military base in Camp Lapu-Lapu during peak hours.
The move is anticipated to ease traffic congestion in the Banilad and Talamban areas, as well as along Salinas Drive in Lahug. Osmeña said he relayed his plan to President Rodrigo Duterte through his aide Bong Go during the ground-breaking ceremonies of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) last March 1.
Though no date has been given yet for the opening of the road, Osmeña has already instructed the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) to determine the peak hours of traffic in the Banilad-Talamban route.
PAL, AirAsia launch more Cebu routes

Travelers will now have more flight options to other parts of the Philippines from Cebu. Starting March 26, PAL will fly four times weekly from Cebu to Clark, and daily from Cebu to Coron, General Santos, Puerto Princesa, and Surigao.
On the other hand, AirAsia will be opening daily flights from Cebu to Boracay and Palawan, and two daily flights to Davao starting April 22. AirAsia has also unveiled their E-Boarding Pass feature, which allows passengers traveling domestic without check-in baggage to go straight to the boarding gate without lining up at the check-in counter at the airport.

Strawberries can mostly be found in Baguio, but for three years now, a farm in the south of Cebu has successfully grown this seasonal fruit outside the summer capital of the Philippines.
In Sergio’s Farm in Brgy. Maloray, Dalaguete, farmers harvest an average of four kilos of strawberries a day. They sell organic strawberries, homemade strawberry jam, and other produce every Saturday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Cebu Farmers’ Market in VIBO Place, Escario St., Cebu City.
The farm is also open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
TIEZA Botanical Garden

Adding to the growing list of flower gardens in the Busay area is TIEZA Botanical Garden. The area where the Kan-irag Golf Course was previously located is now being developed by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority or TIEZA, thus the name.
This farm has a lake which is dotted with red and yellow celosia flowers, which makes it a great spot for a picnic with family and friends. Travel time to the garden from JY Square Mall in Lahug takes 15 to 20 minutes, while entrance fee is at PhP20 per person.
Foodie find: masareal from Mandaue

Aside from dried mangoes, visitors dropping by Cebu who would like to bring pasalubong (take-home) treats can buy masareal for family and friends. Made of ground peanuts, sugar, and syrup, this milky white bar is said to have gotten its name from a combination of the Spanish words “masa” or dough, and “real,” meaning “fine” or “loyal.”
One of the well-known masareal brands today is Didang’s Masareal, which was established by Juliana “Didang” Suico in 1914 at Basak, Mandaue. Masareal is available in most supermarkets and pasalubong shops in Cebu.

Sales and other events are lined up for shoppers hitting the malls this weekend. SM City Cebu will hold a three-day sale from March 17 to 19, while Ayala Center Cebu will hold a summer sale from March 16 to 19.
For business-minded individuals, the Franchising Negosyo para sa Cebu Expo is slated for March 17 to 19 at the Ayala Center Activity Area.
Meanwhile, cosplayers will gather at Parkmall from March 17 to 19 for Cosplay in Action II, a yearly charity event organized by the Cebu Cosplayers Guild.
