Haladaya is the shortened form of “halad kang,” which means an offering to Datu Daya, who was the first leader of the municipality.
The Municipality of Carmen is also celebrating the Sinamay Festival. The festival is named after the sinamay fabric, which is the primary product of Carmen and is used in making hats and bags.
The Cebu City Council has implemented City Ordinance 1786, or the curfew ordinance, and ordered 80 barangays in Cebu City to coordinate with the Philippine National Police and the Department of Social Welfare Services.
The ordinance forbids unaccompanied minors from loitering outside their homes from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
Minors who get caught will be brought to the barangay hall. Tanod and policemen will then go to the offending youngsters’ houses and ask their parents to pick them up. The parents will get sanctioned with mandatory community service or a half-day parenting course.
