Boracay, news, travel, things to do, weather, new year 2020

If the weather is good, guests can surely enjoy a stunning sunset in Boracay.

Boracay remains a favorite holiday destination for both local and foreign tourists, much more during special days like the New Year. Despite the price increase during the season, most hotels and resorts on the island are still fully booked. However, with the onslaught of Typhoon Ursula just last Christmas day, there might still be traces of the storm, especially since some establishments suffered damage from the strong winds. Some portions of the road are also still under renovation, particularly in Barangay Balabag.

Though local officials tried to seek permission to have fireworks display this year, authorities did not approve it. Thankfully, it will be sunny this week and only little showers are expected. To know more about what’s happening this week in Boracay, keep reading.

Weather: Sunny with scattered rains

The island was badly hit by Typhoon Ursula last week and some destruction on various establishments may still be visible this week. Still, visitors can heave a sigh of relief as it will be sunny throughout the week [1]. There will be some scattered rains but it’s still a good week to enjoy the beach. Since it’s the peak season, it is expected that the beach will be filled with people especially during sunset time. Maximum temperature is 29°C and minimum at 25°C, so it means it will still be warm during your island holiday.

Traffic News: Bumpy roads on some areas

While roads from Cagban Port are now wider and fully paved, there are still bumpy areas in major areas of Boracay [2]. There are still portions of the main road that are still under renovation. Most of these are along the main road in Station 1 in Barangay Balabag. Since it’s the peak season, traffic on the main road is expected to be heavy. Long queues at the port going in and out of Boracay is likewise expected so having enough time for travel is advised.

Travel Updates

Additional fees to be collected for water sports activities

Those who want to enjoy water sports activities will need to add a little more to their budget. This is due to the additional fees asked for those using the pontoon [3]. The pontoon or the floating device are used by operators to dock their boats for water sports activities such as island hopping, banana boat ride, fly fish, among others. Every person using the pontoon is required to pay PhP30 per person. There are two pontoon areas at the White Beach, and these are in Station 1 and in Station 3.

Hotel and Resort Booking Status: Mostly fully booked

The New Year is considered a super peak season in Boracay [4]. This means hotel rates are higher by at least 30 percent due to high demand. There are still some establishments that have vacant rooms but are more expensive. Walking in is not possible, too, as a booking confirmation is needed by those who want to enter the island.

No fireworks for New Year celebrations

There will still be no fireworks display in Boracay this coming New Year. It’s because the Local Government of Malay failed to receive the approval of the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force to do the annual fireworks display at the White Beach. Instead of Boracay, the display will be held at Barangay Balusbos in mainland Malay. The banning of fireworks has been implemented since the island’s reopening last year.
