This Week in Boracay (August 31 to September 6, 2019)
A regulating body is being pushed to ensure the continuous successful rehabilitation of Boracay.

Just like the weather which will be mostly gloomy, the issues this week will be a little heavy. It will be raining again for sure in the island. Issues that hurled the island in the past weeks also remain. One is the talk about the bridge connecting Malay to Boracay but is being opposed by the top official of the province. Another issue to be tackled is the suggestion of installing portable toilets along the White Beach. Likewise, the call for the passage of the Boracay Island Development Authority is being pushed.
Weather: Possible rains, but also partly sunny
This week will start a little gloomy. It can be windy, and the possibility of rains with thunderstorms is high [1]. But there’s no need to frown though since the sun will likely to come out at the latter part of the week. It will also remain humid with a maximum temperature of 30°C. With the unexpected twist of weather, water activities are sometimes suspended. Despite that, there are still a lot of things you can do indoors to enjoy the island. Having a relaxing day at the spa is one, and another is pigging out at various island restaurants.
Traffic News: Bridge proposal opposed
With the recent revival of talks about the construction of a bridge that will connect Boracay to mainland Malay, the opposition was raised by one of the top officials in the province. Governor Florencio Miraflores expressed his doubts on the proposal of San Miguel Corporation to build a 1.2-kilometer bridge to Boracay [2]. Instead of a bridge, the governor is proposing to develop an integrated port terminal in Caticlan. The port, according to the government, will have complete facilities for it to be able to accommodate the luxury cruise ships docking in waters of the island.
Travel Update: More public toilets urged
Following an outrage due to the public defecating incident along the White Beach, authorities are urged to install restrooms along the beachfront [3]. It is one of the actions being eyed by authorities to solve some issues of the island. A suggestion to install portable toilets along the beachfront first came from the spokesperson of the President.
Passed Law: Boracay Island Development Authority pushed
Business groups in the Visayas region have joined together to call for the immediate passage of a bill that will create the Boracay Island Development Authority (Bida) [4]. The call was made by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry from the various chapters in the Visayas. Bida is eyed to become a body that will manage the island, and to ensure its full rehabilitation and conservation for it to become a sustainable tourism destination.
