This Week in Boracay (April 8 to 14, 2018)

Morning showers and thunderstorms can be expected in some days during the week, but it will be mostly be sunny in the middle of the day. The hot season can be felt already with a maximum temperature of 31 °C and minimum of 28 °C. As such, this week’s weather remains to be favorable for your plans to sunbathe or to do some water activities. The calm weather is also great for parasailing to witness the sunset. Swimming at dusk is also not a bad idea to try.

Expect less heavy traffic than usual along the main roads in Boracay, thanks to the alternative port installed at the far end of Station 1, White Beach. The almost 70-meter rubber pontoon serves as the docking area for seacrafts of hotels and resorts in the northern portion of the island. The temporary port was put up by the Aklan Jetty Port in an effort to solve the traffic congestion on the island. It has lessened at least 30 percent of the service vehicles from the main port.

Some major airlines flying to Kalibo and Caticlan expressed their support for the rehabilitation of the island by assisting passengers. Airline companies including Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines are offering passengers the option of rebooking, refunding, as well as rerouting their flights without additional charges. Some flights to Caticlan and Kalibo are also suspended.

In line with the rehab program, erring establishments in the island are also closed down by the local government. Crown Regency Prince Resort located along the main road in Barangay Balabag is currently temporarily closed. The resort is the second to be closed next to Boracay West Cove in Sitio Diniwid in Balabag. Guests who might be affected when closures are done are being assisted by the local tourism office.

The final decision has been made for the closure of the island beginning April 26. With the closure, local and foreign tourists will be prohibited to enter Boracay. To monitor the entrance of tourists, residents, and workers on the island, those who plan to enter the island have to present their ID to be admitted. The closure is to give way for the rehabilitation of the island. During the closure period, swimming at the beach will also be prohibited.
