Boracay’s version of Ati-atihan Festival starts this week!

The week will start with a celebration: Boracay presents its own version of Ati-atihan Festival. The festival celebrated in honor of Sr. Sto Niño originated in the municipality of Kalibo, the provincial capital of Aklan. Now on its fourth year, the Boracay Ati-atihan festival is held one week earlier than Kalibo’s version.

There is no road closure during the Boracay Ati-atihan Festival but visitors can expect a slow movement of vehicles in major streets from Cagban Port to the Holy Rosary Parish Church in Barangay Balabag. This is due to the motorcade and fluvial parade from 4:00 AM to 6:30 AM in line with the festival.
Seafood platters and Filipino dishes with a twist
There are unlimited choices for dining in Boracay but below are two homegrown local restaurants that are recommended by travelers.

Nami Restaurant, located on a cliff in Diniwid Beach, offers Filipino dishes with their own twist. One of their famous dishes is their version of spanakopita, a Greek spinach pie. Also popular are their beef salpicao, pasta a la pobre (angel hair pasta with tuyo or salted and dried fish), adobo, and their special Nami burger. Nami’s Boracay Sunset is likewise a recommended drink to end a meal.

When in Station 2, Los Indios Bravos is popular for their seafood platters and classic pub food, usually for groups. Two of their best dishes are sausage and mash and the chicken tikka masala. The gastropub also showcases all-Filipino handcrafted beers apart from their selection of international beers. The restaurant is located at Road 1-A, Bulabog Beach and is open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM daily.
Cliff-diving site offers other water sports activities
Now that the holidays are over, hotels and resorts in the island are less busy so there’s a good chance that even walk-in guests can book a room. Prices for accommodations are also back on peak-season rates.

Adrenaline junkies might consider going to Ariel’s Point, a popular cliff-diving site and daytrip destination. Given good weather and sea conditions, trips going to Ariel’s Point are available seven days a week. Located in Buruanga town, it is about a 30-minute boat ride away from Station 2. Aside from cliff jumping, it is also a spot for snorkeling, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding.

Guest can book in person at Ariel’s House in Station 1 or online through their Facebook page and website. The trip costs PhP2,500 per person which includes a boat ride, lunch, snacks, unlimited drinks, and free use of all water sports facilities.

Casino exclusive for foreigners

Boracay International Casino, which is open only to foreigners, can be found at the 2nd floor of Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center along the main road in Station 2.
The casino, which is open 24 hours daily, began operations at the hotel in September 2016. It is monitored and regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
Station 2 is the spot for shopping adventure

D Talipapa is a one-stop shop in Station 2 and a few meters away from D’Mall. It has a wet and dry market, paluto (cooking service) restaurants, souvenir shops, grocery stores, pharmacies, fast food restaurant, and even a beauty salon at the area. If you run out of cash, an ATM machine is also available inside the vicinity of D’Talipapa. Souvenir items like bags, T-shirts, sarongs, and food products are sold at cheaper rates at the area.
Cloudy weather this week
It will be cloudy during the start of the week especially in the day. Showers are to be expected at night. Sunny weather can be expected from Wednesday, January 12. Minimum temperature this week is 27°C while maximum temperature is 29°C.
