On Monday, September 26, three more cases of Zika virus were confirmed in Iloilo City . This raises to 10 the total number of victims in the city and province. According to a recent pronouncement by the Department of Health (DOH) Chief Paulyn Ubial, there were two new victims from Iloilo City and another from Oton, Iloilo, a town in the outskirts of the city.
The DOH chief explained further that the three new patients did not have a history of traveling to countries affected by the virus in the recent month. Thus, the cases can be considered as local transmissions caused by mosquito bites.
As a preventive measure, the city and provincial governments of Iloilo have already conducted residual spraying, including fogging in affected and high-risk towns and districts to reduce adult mosquito density. Communities with confirmed cases of Zika virus are also initiating clean-up operations to destroy the breeding places of mosquitoes that are carriers of the virus.
WEATHER ADVISORY
Those staying in Iloilo City this week should prepare for occasional rain showers and thunderstorms. It is necessary for sojourners and locals to always bring with them umbrellas, raincoats, jackets, and other rain gear. The average temperature would be 25C . With this, it is still safe for tourists to take on short-distance boat rides from the mainland to islands and islets.
