Panagbenga Festival in Baguio resumes this March!

After postponing for years due to the pandemic, Baguio City is now resuming its Panagbenga Festival and festivities. Along with the Panagbenga Festival activities, the Baguio City government has also eased travel restrictions and issued travel guidelines for tourists. Meanwhile, in Ilocos Sur, updated travel guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated returning residents require home quarantine.

Panagbenga Festival returns to Baguio City

As Baguio City remains at Alert Level 2, the city has begun to loosen its tourism, and travel restrictions: which is timely since the annual Panagbenga Festival will be back this March [1].

According to Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, the 2022 Panagbenga Festival activities will be limited to only a few activities from March 6 to 27 [2]:

● Kite flying challenge
● Cultural show

● Criterium race

● Montañosa Film Festival

● Panagbenga Festival dance competition

Baguio government eases travel restrictions for Panagbenga Festival

The Baguio City government also eases travel restrictions due to the Panagbenga Festival, since the local government hopes that the festival will help Baguio City recover from tourism loss [3].

Part of the eased travel restrictions in Baguio City includes the allowed entrance of tourists as long as they’re fully vaccinated and registered via visita.baguio.gov.ph. Standard safety protocols will remain in place in the entire Baguio City.

Quarantine News: Home quarantine is required for returning Ilocos Sur residents.

Ilocos Sur adjusted its travel guidelines by requiring returning unvaccinated and partially residents, particularly those from Alert Level 3. The travel guidelines will require home quarantine for at least 14 days. In addition to the home quarantine, the travel restrictions also require a negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival. [4]

Meanwhile, those from Alert Levels 1 and 2 must present vaccination cards.

Governor Ryan Luis Singson said that the home quarantine is part of the province’s plan to ease travel restrictions to attract more visitors.

March 1 Update: Baguio City and Ilocos regions are placed under COVID-19 Alert Level 1 until March 15.
