Cordillera provinces shift to Alert Level 4 until January 31.

An outbreak of new COVID-19 cases placed three Cordillera provinces under Alert Level 4 by the national Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) until January 31. Due to the outbreak, Baguio implements Alert Level 4 guidelines and health protocols for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Kalinga under Alert Level 4 until January 31

The national IATF placed three Cordillera provinces under Alert Level 4 until January 31 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the area. Part of the Alert Level 4 guidelines and health protocols set by Mountain Province Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. included rules regarding the movements and travel of residents. He states that travel is allowed except for those under 18 and above 65, pregnant women, and persons with comorbidities. If for essential services and goods, they will be allowed to go outside [1].

Unvaccinated minors not allowed to go outside—Baguio LGU

The Baguio City local government heightens health protocols for unvaccinated minors. According to Executive Order 12-2022 issued by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, unvaccinated children will not be allowed to go outside their residences unless for essential errands and cases per health protocols [2].

In addition, the establishments where unvaccinated minors and vulnerable folks should enter are those with certified Safety Seals; they should also refrain from indoor markets and high-traffic areas. Baguio City is under Alert Level 3 as of January 25, 2022.

Benguet suffers severe COVID-19 outbreak

A research group’s data shows that Benguet is suffering from a severe outbreak of COVID-19 infections. According to the OCTA Research group, Benguet is the top province outside the National Capital Region (NCR) with the most COVID-19 conditions. Benguet records a 101.48 high daily average attack rate and 86% weeklong growth [3]. Benguet, along with three Cordillera provinces, currently saw an outbreak in COVID-19 infections—with the latter three under Alert Level 4. Due to this, a “no vax, no entry” was implemented in Mountain Province as part of their Alert Level 4 guidelines and health protocols.

Field hospitals reopen in Laoag for COVID patients.

Laoag City government reopened field hospitals to accommodate more cases of COVID-19 in the area due to the outbreak. The site is at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, wherein primary treatments will be accommodated [4]. As of January 21, there are 13 patients currently confined at the temporary facilities on the fifth floor of the eastern ward. In total, the whole hospital has 181 beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients.
