Baguio City drops rules for fully vaccinated individuals!

North Luzon has both good news and bad news. Starting with the excellent information: fully vaccinated individuals can now use their vaccination cards as substitutes for swab test results upon entrance at Baguio City. However, tourists are only limited to 3,000 per day. Unfortunately, Baguio City also continues to see a rise in dengue cases. As for Ilocos Sur, two municipalities are placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Two areas in Ilocos Sur are under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until July 18

Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis Singson placed Banayoyo and Lidlidda under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQC) from July 4 to July 18 [1].

Singson noted the alarming number of COVID-19 cases in the two municipalities. As of July 5, there are seven cases in Banayoyo and 17 in Lidlidda. Aside from the rise in cases, Singson also considered the full occupancy of facilities and the shortage of healthcare workers to place the areas under MECQ.

Along with these two areas, he also extended Magsingal’s MECQ status until July 15. Meanwhile, other areas that will remain under MECQ until July 12 are Sta. Lucia and Sinait.

Travel Updates

Tourists can use the vaccination card upon entry at Baguio; only 3,000 tourists are allowed daily.

Fully vaccinated tourists who want to visit Baguio City can use their vaccination cards as substitutes for negative COVID-19 test results upon entry into the city.

In a Facebook post last July 5, the Baguio City government announced that tourists must still pre-register at visita.baguio.gov.ph and get their unique QR-coded tourist pass. However, they must still undergo triage upon arrival. The policy is allowed for tourists of all ages from GCQ and MGCQ areas. The post also reminds tourists to follow standard health protocols still [2].

As part of their COVID-19 risk reduction, Baguio City will limit tourist arrivals to just 3,000 per day. As of June 1, 2021, the Baguio City government stated that arrivals did not yet exceed the daily limit [4].

Health News

Dengue cases increased in Baguio City in 2021

Along with the threat of COVID-19, Baguio City is also facing a surge in dengue cases from January to June 19, 2021, according to data from the City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU). There have been 202 dengue cases in the area in six months—more than the reported 79 in 2020.

To enforce safety, the Baguio LGU is urging residents to practice dengue prevention and control strategy: search and destroy mosquito breeding areas, self-protection (wearing of mosquito repellents and clothing, using of mosquito nets and window screens), seek consultation, and say no to haphazard fogging [5].
