Vaccination drives in shopping malls in Bacolod City will resume active operations starting January 3, after the city government paused the vaccination drive operations in shopping malls to give the medical and vaccination teams a break during the holiday season.

The medical deputy of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force, Dr. Chris Sorongon, said that the medical and vaccination teams are ready for the flock of residents in the assigned official vaccination drives.

After the official announcement of the Department of Health or DOH about the updated interval vaccination schedule for booster shots, Sorongon also added that there is a big possibility that more people will go to the designated vaccination drive sites starting this month.

Based on recent data, Bacolod City has a target number of 410,000 people to be inoculated. Bacolod City has almost achieved 100% vaccination for individuals vaccinated with the first dose, as Sorongon said. [2]

Booster shots for adults only as of now, DOH says

Following the announcement of the DOH regarding the shortened interval for the booster shot vaccination of fully vaccinated adults, minors aged 12 to 17 years old are not recommended to avail of the booster shots for now.

The announcement of the DOH is guided by the amended Emergency Use Authorization or EUA for vaccination boosters that adults, once fully vaccinated, can avail of a single dose booster shot at least three months after getting their second dose. [3]

The DOH explores all possible options to regulate other transmissible variants of the coronavirus. The DOH also stresses the importance of vaccination among those individuals who still haven’t been vaxxed until now. The national health sector is still encouraging local government units to push their residents to get vaxxed as soon as possible.

Vaccination drives are still open to the public, and residents can easily access them in health centers and shopping malls. Getting vaccinated is still encouraged, especially now that the Philippines is approaching its second year in a state of the pandemic.
